long shot this, but some wise sage on here might know. i just gave my shoot and scoot no4 woodwork a going over with boiled linseed oil as it was looking a bit grubby. now,, as a carpenter joiner i know boiled linseed oil is fantastic ( and authentic) for rifle woodwork. but.......
heres the question. can boiled linseed oil be used on the the metal parts and working parts of a real rifle? ( not an airsoft weapon, i mean a real steel)
Nige, I can only add that my boot-maker recommended boiled linseed oil for the soles of my boots, which includes hobs and toeplates, so I would guess that steel is ok with it.

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
I've always used Youngs 303 oil on my rifles and shotguns Nige, available from any gun shop.

No, it would dry out quickly, leave a residue and gum up the works. (imagine cooking oil on your hob that doesn't get cleaned- yeuch) Of course you could always use that as an excuse to clean it at shows for the public
. If it was any good the army would have used it. Best to use a proper gun oil as stof suggested, or at least a mineral oil.

3in1 is okay on metal gun parts as well... but proper gun oil smells better.
There's a gun shop on Ecclesall Road, Hardy's. He'll have some.
3 in 1 isnt great for guns tbh, is it too has a tendancy to turn to " lard".
no probs, i will clean the metal parts and dose it up with bisley silicone oil till i can get some proper gun oil. thanks lads.
