Possibly part of a respirator bag given the fittings?
without pulling out a pile of webbing out of boxs to check at the mo thats my best guess.

Actually, i dont think its that at all on second thoughts.
A few bits of wwii webbing have fittings similar to o8 webbing. No18 radio sets have belts very similar to 08 ones.
I know this as i'm looking for one to continue refitting my 18 set!

Even more likely its the waist belt of an 18 set or something similar then.
If you dont need it i'd possibly be intereted in buying it off you?
At the moment my 18 set has got a war aid ws48 belt on it at the moment (and i'm still struggling to source shoulder straps).

Pics of the belt and shoulder straps of an 18 set are really hard to find on the net. I had to research what i was looking for by visiting a guy with an intact 18set

I might have some pics somewhere. the 18 set belt is usually attached to two steel 'wings' that fit onto the set and curve round your hips.

I'll dig out the pics of the 18 sets belt i took and if its the right one then i'll wing a pm your way.

I'm 99.99% sure it's not a belt from an 18 set. Or anything like '08 webbing. The buckles are all wrong and it looks far too thin.
Here's a whole load of photos of WS-18 stuff I took at the victory show a few years back when looking to renovate my WS-18 set. Note his shoulder straps are completely and utterly wrong.

(admittedly those pics are of the later simplified type of belt)
For three lovely '08 belts see here:

I suspect your idea of a gas mask bag strap may be closer.
