Right i think that was a bloody ace event and all credit to Guy for doingthe lions share and to the rest of us for any help we put in..
I think the feedback form this one shows that the 24 hour game idea is a winner with the players, i'm not a great 'long event' person and i really enjoyed this one.
But like the previous two events we can always build on things.
heres my thoughts about lessons learnt:
1) We dont sub contract work out, syds inability to finish the job left Guy with loads on at short notice.
2) We perhaps invest in two large army modular tents in case of chuffing awful weather (anchor do these very cheaply) both BOTB and CR had bad weather issues and little cover for those between games.
3) For morale purposes if we do have split camps we perhaps have some 'time out' for two hours at last light where everyone socialises together?
4) I found playing the other side for an event very worthwhile i got to know a lot of players who i would never normally have much contact with, its healthy not to get entrenched in one side and i would encourage all organisers to try running a squad of the other team at least once so players get to know us as organisers and not as 'the brit para bloke'.
5) If possible we get soem mass brewing facility, (army style urn) and we have two norwegian containers of tea and coffee on the back of the lnadrover, we sent his out to each camp so everyone gets a hot drink at least once, its great for morale.
just some ideas.

All good ideas, just comments on two.

I think two camps near the cars is a must. Means we still have themed areas, but we can access the cars in an emergency. Sorry Guy I know you didn't want that, but I think this weekend has proved its a necessity.
Put the big tents that Gadge talks about on site as the actual in-game camps.

Sorry, its not going to happen with me. I got into this to play Brit and I'm not changing. Its not even just about the cost of buying the kit.
Re not playing another type:
I understand that Rich but understand that it will marginalise you from 50 per cent of the player base who you wont get to interact with , game with or socialise with as much.
I'm not saying anyone has to, im just saying it was an incredibly positive experience from me and i feel that a lot of players now know who i am as a gamer rather than being 'the bloke who shouts at the allies' and a name on a forum.
In fact two peopel commented on how it was nice to put a person to the avatar.
For WOTAN i'm playing a Brit commando Sgt and Evo and Matt are doing similar, odds are game after that i'll do German to keep an even keel.

Soz.... you're not going to persuade me.
We could always swap kit couldn't we?
I know I'd definitely fit into Gadge and Chomley's German kit and baggy para jumpsuits will fit most.
Whadda ya thunk?

No.
Happy to lend kit Steve if you fancy getting to know some of the other players.

Lessons learned #6
We have 6 organisers, so thats 3 on each side at every event. Lets not stack quite so much responsibility for controlling the sides on so few.
Yeah, cool.
I got to know quite a few at the end of the game yesterday. Helga kindly supplied me with beer and Aero minty hot chocolate. What the hell's her real name, I can't keep calling her Helga.
My jumpsuits are available on an exchange basis (you bend it, you mend it) anytime.
I just can't afford to spend on other kit at the moment.

Dianne is her real name i think
I dont think we can say to peopel 'you will organise this side' Rich. Just as you refuse to play Axis or other faction i refuse to be told which side i have to do.
As long as we have at least two on each side it shouldnt be an issue,
2 motivated organisers is worth four pressganged ones.
E.g. We do a Yanks vs germans game with no provision for brits, i'd liek to have the option to do either and not be told i had to run side x.
At Arnhem their were 40 germans players for three organisers and 40 allied for three.
This one was 23 allied for two organsiers
and 25 for three axis, alhtough this was offset by having your site organsisers with their local knowledge on the allied side.

I don't mind playing German, US or Brit for Wotan - kit-wise I'm OK.
Big tents is not a bad idea - except we have to pay for them and store them which is the problem.
Bevs on camp is a good idea but same probs as above. Hence chaps are supposed to bring their own.
Insist on approved kit list so chaps bring enough (and don't bring too much).
Dunno what Helga' name either
is but she was a real trooper (and better on the eye than her avatar)
Up to the organisers to provide a game for others, not themselves.

lol, now thats a joke.
Site owners on our side. I hardly saw them all weekend. When I did see them they seemed to be talking with the Germans more than with us.
The only time they were there for us was at Hill 468 as far as I can remember.
alhtough this was offset by having your site organsisers with their local knowledge on the allied side.
Hehe! If you can find them! ![]()

I found them - had a couple of blatting exchanges. Pissed a few players off 'cos they were rather bullet proof.

Pissed a few players off 'cos they were rather bullet proof.
I heard that as well..
Actually overall I am very happy to say I heard virtually nothing about cheating from anyone... except for that remark.

Not sure which of us this is meant for really Dave and im not offended if its me but can you see my point.
If we do a yanks versus germans only game are you going to refuse to help with it rich cos there are not brits?
I really dont think we can expect players or organisers to have to have one string to their bow.
To use an analogy its abit liek when i ran games for Games Workshop, i'd have been sacked if i only did games for Imperial Guard (which was my army), i ran no end of campaigns for armies and even games systems i had zero interest in.
As long as we have one motivated guy (pref two) on each side we'll be fine.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
With regards to cheating its bloody hard to tell if you've been hit under some of that rain!
First time i got shot out it was only when i sat down for my 20 min wait that i relaised i'd caught the whole burst on my mp40 and wasnt actually dead!

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
Sorry Gadge, you've lost me there...

When you say its up to the orgnaisers to provide a game for the players not themselves.

"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
I think he means we should be organising and the players playing, and never the twain should meet.
Or at least if they do it should be under the guise of playing to organise.
I agree.
