Not very in keeping witt period but i wear knee lenght goretex socks over commando socks,

bone dry, breathable, cushioned and because you have two layers to absorb the friction, zero blisters.

I learn t foot care the hardway after being speed marched over tank tracks (basically roads of limestone chippings and shale) at catterick.

I did that on the saturday gadge, unfortunately they were sodden by the end of play and I wanted dry socks on and dry feet ;) so I could move across the site without squelching (I don't like plinkley toes, part of antifootfetishism)

Helga - the safety specs might be mine. I certainly lost a pair, though I thought I'd dropped them either on the road near the V1 or else in the woods next to it.

I found a pair in the Axis camp early on, but nobody claimed them. I left them under the bashas - might have been those ones.
