Hi
Can you help me please?
The next issue of Ai is featuring the gunmen event (4 pages) with WWII poster. I would very much like a small piece in the article on CIA.
Is this something you can do for me? or can you point me in the direction of some one that can
cheers
Paul

Yes Paul, no problem - what do you need to know and how many words?
cheers
David

Hi Dave
Thanks for that, lets say 300 words and a logo (if you have one)
I would suggest a piece on the history, why the forum was set up and what service you offer- normal stuff
my addy is paul@ai-mag.com
cheers mate
P

Right, no problem - do you have a deadline?

opps sorry
this firday please

That's fine, I'll make sure you have it well before!

I'll draft this and post for your approval before submitting....
(need to make sure that the message that CiA is the centre of WW2 gaming, not Gunman, comes across nice and clear)

Well, i've been repeating that to him ad nauseum for the last couple of weeks.

On the downside, seems like Monaf et al wants to go to Eagle Has Landed.

JV and Chris are nice fellas, Monaf and his son are w*nkers.

he he , can we wash Gadge and Rich out of the story in a Stalinist type revision of history ?

& Please don't use my surname in any article , or THAT FUCKING PICTURE

PS it was a Gunman and CiA event , we are not just a postscript to his event IMHO or just a forum ot help him conquer the earth ?

Original and best I reckon .

Indeed. Of course, there might not be any places left for people we don't like to book in to TEHL....

Goodie, phase 1 completed then.

1. Pre-publicity (sig banners, web site, forum announcement, bulk email)
2. Pre-booking list
3. Prior announcement of booking date to favoured players
4. Public booking date

Comrades in Arms was set up in September 2006 by like-minded experienced airsofters with an interest in WW2.

Frustrated with the Catch-22 of there being no WW2 airsoft games due to too few players with authentic kit and yet too few players because of the lack of WW2 games, the Comrades in Arms organisers decided to kick the WW2 scene into action. Those rare games that were being organised by airsoft sites were WW2 in name only - having many players running round in DPM and with Armalites and Camelbaks, which wasn’t what CiA had in mind at all.

With the knowledge that there were a few players with kit dotted around the country but not enough to make a game worthwhile CiA devised a looks-like list of uniforms and weapons that would allow players to get involved and look the part without great expense.

To support this effort a web site was created along with a lively forum that allowed the exchange of both player enthusiasm and useful information as well as a conduit for airsoft sites and kit suppliers.

The first game was set for December 2006 at the First & Only site in Derbyshire. CiA was reasonably sure there were enough players to build a workable Allied side with little difficulty - Germans were going to be a struggle, which was where the looks-like scheme would kick in.

What actually happened surprised everyone. Whilst a few players turned up in the allowed Flectarn, airsofters being airsofters kitted themselves out with a reasonable attempt at authentic period German gear! Sixty or so players created an amazing airsoft recreation of The Battle of the Bulge and a good pool of enthusiastic UK players had been formed.

By now interest was coming from WW2 re-enactors intrigued by the airsoft angle as well as many airsofters who had wrongly assumed that WW2 was incredibly expensive to get into. The WW2 scene got another boost when the Chinese MP40's came onto the market which were quickly bought up by the Axis players who could at last use something other than 'captured' Thompsons.

The next challenge set by CiA - was a re-creation of the 'Bridge Too Far' battle at Arnhem (actually the Phoenix Urban site in Derbyshire). They knew there was now a sufficient player base for the German side but this game was set to have no US troops and the number of WW2 British players was way too low to make a game viable. As a precaution they introduced a Dutch Resistance option to bolster the Brits (the Dutch impression being easy and cheap to recreate). Yet once again airsofters came up trumps - many buying additional kit for a British Airborne impression, others coming from reenacting and yet more players new to WW2 getting into the British scene. CiA closed the booking at 85 players with airsofters coming from Dundee in the North and Guernsey in the South.

Two more games have since been run - 'Churchill's Revenge' held in June at a forest site in Wales and 'Projekt Wotan' held in the underground UCAP site in Portsmouth. The next planned game is ‘The Eagle Has Landed’ in March 2008 at a Suffolk site.

The four man Comrades in Arms team (Chomley-Warner, HeadShot, Kermit and Old ‘Un) remain faithful to the original aims:
· Non-profit making and site independent
· Organise WW2 games that follow a 'film-sim' principle (restricted ammo, authentic uniforms and weapons, period props) giving a high degree of suspension of belief
· Clear and consistent rules for CiA and CiA supported games
· Encourage site owners to run their own WW2 games
· Create a hub for WW2 airsofters to share their enthusiasm
· Forge links between suppliers, sites and players
· Keep an 'friendly and inclusive' approach rather than 'elitist and stitch-counting'

Comrades in Arms forum: http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk/php/phpBB2/index.php

* ends *

More than he asked for, he can delete paras if he needs to. Only one para refers to web site and forum - we are the principal WW2 game organisers, not a just forum provider!

Looks good to me. One suggestion though. Try to use real first names, not online nicknames - articles read better that way.

Plus, it means i can avoid explaining exactly how i got the nickname of Kermit in the first place. (trust me - after the 100th time of asking, it gets boring explaining it)

I know what you mean - first names sounds a bit weak, no point putting full names. Perhaps just deleting the brackets altogether solves the problem!

Agreed, also that way Yith and Gadge don't really need to get a nod either. I originally thought it was a bit off to leave them out of it altogether, but if we aren't name-checking either then it doesn't matter.

Hmmm looks lifted straight from the website !

Any chance about "pushing the boundary" , or the quality of players at our games? It's an advertising opportunity , rather than a history lesson IMHO. Our games are not skirmish in silly kit, they are well thought out WWII experiences using a variety of quality props and effects . Who else had a 2/3rd size V1 at their game this year or the quality of stuff we had at Wotan ?

Not intended as criticism , just think it could do with plugging our games a bit more, esp in a feature telling everyone how great DDay was /

I've adapted my shit from the web site, which I wrote anyway!

Thing is, only half of that splurge will be used - and a sales pitch will be perceived as just that.

Be carefull of using words like 'WW2 experiences' - that's Josh's world. 'Quality of players' sounds very elitist - are we putting potential players through an exam before letting them play?

Also to bear in mind that our bit in the feature will be swamped by photos and Gunman this and Gunman that. Josh is putting cash Paul's way, why else would there be a four page feature - they took no interest in our games, despite (because of? ) Kermit's relationship.

Any how, feel free to re-write and lets see a different slant...

Well if we can't be assed re writing what's been on the web for quite a few months is it really adding anything ot the article at all ? I think we have moved on quite a way from the first two games, just think it's a pity we can't highlight them rather than discuss how it kicked off nearly 18 months ago .

I re-wrote that for the new web site - it isn't old at all.

Anyway, what's this 'we'? I asked you for your re-write!

Edit: Incidently, the purpose is to show WW2 was started by us and is run by us - not Mr Josh!

I'm fine with it to be honest.

Like Dave says, it'll be chopped to shreds anyway. I think it ably states our eminence as the founders of the WW2 Airsoft scene.

If Josh wants to spend thousands to raise his profile and become the Don of shite, ill-though out mainstream WW2 airsoft that's fine by me. We'll be the elite ones delivering what the connoisseurs want.

We're like the Port to Josh's cheap Merlot.
