Ah yes, true. It would be death by humiliation though, as a cheer goes up from 50 other players. Not as final as death death (think of the HSE enquiry :x ), but more satisfying....

I will bring the Panzerschreck along anyway as I don't know how the game is going to work, the electronics are not sorted out yet may be next year before that works.
It is only a tube with the bits on at the moment but if Jerry gets within range with it we can call it a tank kill, at least it is nice and heavy for them to carry.

Seriously, are Spiers and Oddball fucking deluded?

How many times have I, and others, reiterated that it's highly unlikely that his toy tank will not be a moving target?

If I can make it safe enough I might just give them the massively steep track halfway down the ridge that runs just to the north of the woodland. See how his 'thing' tackles that with Germans lobbing loads of pyro on top of it.

Jay, Guy you want to organise an ambush party in the private forum? I don't mind if you capture them both for the day and bugger them senseless on Mt Etna with his 'kin Panzerschreck.

The tank is the Axis' toy anyway - Oddball knows the score and he has told Spiers, so that has Spiers up. At least he hasn't spoilt the surprise for the other punters...

Quoted from Oddball:

He told me no jeep as he will not have the space for the wheels I am bringing hence I may need you to drive my jeep if it goes there.
Hope you are a good driver, the other option is I bring Tank on Saturday with Serena then nip home Sat night and come back in Jeep Sunday morning.

Regarding the tank I know many think it is stupid in many ways, but I thought I would give it a go and see what I could do.
It is a compromise on many levels shape, size, colour and what weight I could tow.
I discussed many aspects on a number of forums as I made it and this was what came out love it or hate it :?

As the Tetrarch was also given to the Russians in small numbers maybe 50 and it may also be used as a captured vehicle by axis so basic OD seemed to be best choice, a red star can easily be stuck over a white one etc. If camo is required a water-based paint could be used and later removed with white spirit.

Well, he didn't spoil the surprise for me either. When was this decided? Where's it going in the game? Would have been nice to have been told.

I thought we had been talking about this from the beginning - the Germans are a Panzer div and so it ought to be theirs really (if indeed you wan to use it in-game - but I thought the consensus was we weren't using it in-game, in any case you haven't written a scenario for it).

If you don't want it then for gawd sake tell him not to bring it and ask if he brings the jeep instead. I'm sure you Yanks will find a use for it...

From the beginning I've said numerous times that we can't use it in-game for many reasons, safety being the main one. I've not heard anything about allowing the Germans to use it.

I've PMd Oddball twice and told him that it's unlikely we'll be able to use it for anything other than a fixed position and he said he was happy to bring it regardless of how it was used.

I discussed vehicles ages ago and realised that there weren't going to be any available, mainly because we couldn't count on Oddball to bring anything due to his uncertainty about attending.

We can shoehorn it in quite easily and there's a lovely spot were it could go, but I just can't see how it could be used safely on this site whilst moving as there aren't any well defined roads, just narrow motorbike dirt tracks.

 Just realised, Spiers is bringing a 'Tanker' uniform with him.

Doh! No one has said the Germans can use it! But if anyone ought to have it it's the Germans (as a stationary prop/objective). The presence of the tank could represent a Pzr Div and block a route maybe.

Anyhoo, as long as it's on the German side and out of play and away from the US the Spiers will look goofy in the Tanker kit. RESULT!

On the other hand, I'm sure you can make use of the jeep for rece and troop movement.

The only other vehicles that could be available will be Barrat's Kubel or combo. And I'm not sure if he is bringing either/or (has he asked anyone??) but in any case he doesn't want them shot at :ghey: If all that is correct then there will only be Oddball's jeep(ish) and Taffys 4x4 non-jeep on the field.

I think Taffy's going to be using his vehicle.

OK, let's work it in as a static objective on the eastern side of the bridge, There's a little ridge that it can sit behind.

Oddball's jeep can be used on the track to the south of the woods in order to take troops through to the mortar positions.

What we could do is get the german's to lay the mines out 30 minutes before the Americans set off, or on Friday night if they're so committed (under our supervision), so the Yanks have to use the detectors to move through the woodland. That should hold them up a bit. Can't remember what you said had been used for mines before, we'll need to provide something they can bury.

I'll have the mines with the kit, all sorted.

Probably better having mine laying and mortar deployment to be part of the game 'things for people to do' - it would be a shame if the game starts and it's already sorted. Jay's mortar will be heavy and need four people to move (with ammo crate) and set up. Maybe stash it on Mnt Etna so they have to bring it down to the firing position. Another mine laying team can be busy mine laying at the approach to the bridge. Remainder of Germans will be opposing US movement though the woods and the Brit movement to the LZ proper. If I leave the mine detector at the initial drop area then that will be another time waster as I send a two man crew back to get it. We really need to keep people busy and string things out as long as we can - I'm quite happy spinning stuff out as long as you like as the Brits are up for role-play.

My main concerns is that the Yanks, who are about as dynamic as a wet fart on a Sunday afternoon, will just end up blatting through the woods with their Tommy hi-caps and will get to the mortars too quickly. If the Germans can lay the mines whilst under fire that would be good. Etna is a monstrous schlep from the woodland! We'll find somewhere else to put it.

Etna is not that far from the mortar final site. Fallshys can be tasked the role - pick up the German drop cylinder (they carried nothing on them after all).

I would have though that mine removal under fire than laying would be more realistic - mines are a means of preventing progress not instigating a battle! If mines were prevented from being laid then you might as well not put them there to start with. Plus I would rather the kit was used under my eyes

Incidentally, don't put the Yanks down - you have some very diciplined players there plus you only have 10 or 12 so you should be able to keep them tightly under your control. Spiers is the only tit but if he arses around you know what to do! Plus, it's Guy's and Kermit's job to make sure you don't get to the mortars too quickly (you ought to be in those woods for an hour or more).

Your chaps will be fighting Jerry - as will we (Guy will have to task a couple of his bods for 10 minutes to lay a minefield, that's all) - it won't affect game progress (the Allies are attacking, defenders have the advantage). I'll be sending scouts out pre-attack anyway - plenty of daliance to be had...

If at the start of the game Axis has say, four men out setting up mortar and two men setting out mines then he still has 19 men to entrench pending attack. Then will be boosted by specialist teams returning for offensive duties - only two men need to left on the mortar.

I presume Axis will move out and be deployed before Allies are allowed to leave safezone.

On the first site visit David and I discussed using Oddballs tank for one assualt in a very scripted way on the Sunday morning to represent the panzer counter attack . It wasn't planned to be used for anything else , and only for about an hour within defined boundaries. Probably never made it to the draft plan hence the confusion about me saying it was a panzer.

Coolio. We can fit it in somehow. Perhaps even as part of the Saturday night game.

They could fight over control of the tank then the winners have the 'joy' of driving back on it. 20 players on a teeny Tetrarch!
