Yeah. May's a bit of a bitch TBH so would prefer sometime in April.
S

Right, I'd forgotten - PD stays out in Lincolnshire during the week.
He wanted to bring Karl and Bryn along (Sean is away doing other stuff) and he is bubbling with ideas but I sort of said ideas aren't the problem - it's how to fuse living history with airsoft and keep both factions happy. How hardcore do your guys get in private battles - and can we expect airsofters to go for it.
Anyhoo, need to rethink meeting times/dates!

Looks like it'll have to be either 23/24 May.
Kerstin will be with me that weekend; so pick a nice place to meet where she can go for a wander!!
Matlock or Bakewell??

Any Thursday evening in April I will be in Lincolnshire
But I suppose I could commute - thing is I wanted to bring Bryn and Karl (Stig will be off in exotic locations with Placebo!)I'll see whar's on the works calendar and get back to ya.......
What about using MSN?????? online meeting could work??????? or is face to face better? (well not if you have to look at my ugly mug for too long it isn't! )
Lemme know - I'm right fired up to get some ideas run by ya - Between me and Stig we could set up a zelt camp for 30 people!!!!!!! I got some herbert with a field kitchen who could slop some chow together and everything - One idea is - include a ration pack in the game price.... subsidies could be obtained from our funds -
and make it Sat early to Sunday late in the field and zush in some night pyro (flares and suchlike) to keep things jumping (can't do that with real steel as they collect hte bang sticks in at night) - mount an incursion into the enemy camp - route them through tripflares - you know the drill.
I'm thinking Reichswald Scenario already - Small pockets of VG defending a fuel dump from Alied advance.......... I can locate some very dense forests - I'm rambling
Later - let me have your thoughts on a meet.Cheers
PAul

Ah, forgot you stopped over there during the week and it would be silly to disrupt that! We will have other thinks.
I think rather than scenarios and other such ideas I think it's more fundamental things we were interested in initially. None of us have any experience of reenacting private battles (other than ghey videos) and the levels of 'living history' you chaps get up to. And how appealing that would be to airsofters who, as a general rule, get agitated if they haven't shot at someone for an hour. It's how we can achieve a fusion of the two and make it 'work'.
Gadge's game this weekend is the closest we have got to strict discipline so it will be interesting to see if chaps can keep it up all day. One of our games was quite 'hardcore' two years ago and half the players left the site 'cos it got a bit uncomfortable!
The four of us that are CiA have got quite fed up of all this gheyness - happily most of the 'we are just airsofters' players have been going to Gunman's games. Josh will take all-comers as £85 is £85 - even if there were no Yanks at Caen. That's fine! If we settle down to 20-a-side of committed players who know the score and want something 'more' that blatting in a silly costume then we are happy with that.
Our September was going to be a hardcore Escape and Evade game based on Jedburgh mission behind enemy lines, 10 vs 30. A true 24 hour live-it-for-real thing. We are having a bit of difficulty finding a location big enough that we haven't been to already. So, we were thinking about it and then you popped up! It seemed here was the ideal chance for a fusion thing.
Sorry, babbling, but there is the background. So, rather than a full blown meeting with people all full of ideas it was more a meeting of minds thing and finding out how you thought it could work for reenactors, how we thought it would work for airsofters - and how it could work for both.
Does this make sense?

Morning Dave!
Just prior to nipping off to Holme for a weekend WWI'ing! Kubelwagen Saturday - M1Halftrack with working Maxxon turret tomorrow!!!! WEEEEEHOOOO!Anyway - I digress.
We are thinking along the same lines - the knack will be to temper each side with the other as it were. introduce enough "LH" into a scenario'd "game" to keep the participant's interest...... inject enough "gameplay" into the "LH" to keep those participant's interest - I'm not a believer of full on total immersion day 1 meself..... slowly introduce new elements and ease people into a concept.
If you already have an idea - Escape and Evasion - Will that be Loads of Germans combing the hillsides for SAS boys? - if so - I might have a site................... Hides and bivvis would be good........ ambushes - IEDs - mmmmmmmmmm
Hit and run missions by the Jeds... oh you wonderful man you!Anyway - digressing again - To be brutally honest - "LH" private battles are pants - no matter what they tell you. It's been that way for 20 odd years - Big men with neutered guns running around playing cowboys and indians - And anyone with 10g of grey matter who's done it for a good while will agree. It's the machismo of actually toting a lump of steel around and fantasising as you squeeze the grigger that floats their boats. I'm not over keen to get those types involved. I want (sounding a tad Aryan here) a new breed of hobbyists to emerge - people who have very open attitudes and are willing to suspend belief in certain areas - And if the weaponry we use is electric/gas and goes "whirrphut" then so be it - For me (and I've thought about it a LONG time) the sheer fact that you can actually score a hit or a miss takes "re-enacting" a stage further. AND IT IS POTENTIALLY MORE INCLUSIVE! I mean - how many can afford £60 on fuel to get there, £85 for an MG42, £200 for 1000rds, £40 on food............ you see where I'm going? The Section V bit is dying and will be restricted more and more to the public show circuit. Shame I know but there ye go - Whereas AEGs - £180 for a MP44 now - it's yours, you get to keep it, it costs about £7 to feed all day at an event.............. and anyone over 18 can obtain and own one if they fit the criteria.
Yeah - digression city around here isn't it?So - when can we get our collective heads together?

hehe, you can see why he winds a lot of the re-enactment community up - he realises that it needs to evolve whereas a lot of others are still living in the past (bit ironic, really)
If this CiA/AFRA thing is done, the first event needs to be tightly controlled, with a relatively hand-picked group of players. Anything that would be spread over a very large geographical area would not be a good idea for the "experiment".
Re. E&E - that's Guy's baby.

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Well, the thing that struck me was that he was advocating pretty much a typical CiA game! So, very close on synergy which bodes well - it doesn't need to be 'experimental' in any way, just follow the lines we have already been talking about - more 'realistic' than we have already done and expect more from the players.
Anyhoo, as I said to PD - first talks are about commonality, not game scenarios and it's clear from last PM that we do have something to build on. Which is nice.

Where did we leave this? Were we intending to meet with Paul soon at all?

Yes, at some point, when we are free... had a general chat with Poacher at Crich the other week.
When we have our next site meeting at Fearful Silence it might be possible to tie up with PD.
