Bit by bit the CiA message is getting lost.
How many times has a phrase like this been used 'I'll get to a game someday as soon as I have completed my SS/Airborne/Commando kit'?
They collect the kit and never play/run out of money/lose interest/sell up.
Gun and outfit collecting is all very well (oh, and photos thereof) but is anyone actually interested in airsoft?
We could do with a mission statement that gets sent to every new sign-up to the effect of 'It really, really doesn't matter if you only have a bit of kit - get yourself to a game ASAP and enjoy yourself. The forum is full of chaps with pukka kit, don't let it put you off - you will be very welcome to play as you are.'
Anyone up for writing it, if it's a good idea at all....
Add a bit about - you don't have to join a feckin team to play WWII airsoft for my POV .
These teams, worst idea we had IMHO . they haven't catalysed players, just divided them up .
Disagree, it's the volumes all about kit and nothing about playing...
Funnily enough, I thought back to our conversation last week when you pointed out the BotB was organised to give players somewhere to play in WW2 without looking silly - maybe it is all about dressing up after all!!
And training days so that .........none of them can be assed turning up to actually use the info .
hahahaahha i've got it ...
......it's turning into reeactment , £25 says if you dug a trench and let them sit in there all weekedn discussing kit and posing for photos they'd all be as happy as sandbags .
Perhaps a series of articles about tactics, in a section called boot camp. modern day or period and no interference from "the experts!"
It hasn't got to the wannabe stage yet (when people get seriously abused for "getting it wrong"), and I for one will come down hard on anyone that does do have a go at others with regards to kit.
We should have an explanation of WW2 airsoft (wont call it a mission statement - we already have one of those: "The UK home of WW2 Airsoft"
Regarding the explanation itself:
"WW2 Airsoft is exactly what it says on the tin. Airsoft in WW2 type clothing and equipment - but does that mean you have to go out and spend £400 on all the equipment at the same time before you can get out on the WW2 skirmish battlefield? No. Players choose their own level of financial penury - which can be from the simple "counts as" system right up to 100% accurate reproductions of equipment and clothing from the period - it's up to you to choose, and not up to others to tell you what you should be wearing. Remember, this is Airsoft, so lining the enemy up in your sights, and playing the whole day is at the heart of the experience..."
Or some other shite like that...
**edit**
There may be some value in doing a series of simple cartoon like articles "how to attack a trench system", "fire support basics" etc etc. I've got plenty of period info on such things, and even though we know the chance of them actually doing it on the battlefield is somewhere close to fuck all, there is the subconscious suggestion that this is more about action than just photoshoots.....

Yes, that's the sort of thing Jay!
Crotem is a case in point - sounded enthusiastic, went and bought all the kit, never used it and is now selling up. And he's not the first.
Lewis, Tony , Tiny, all used it at one game only . How much use Steiner will get out of his Brit kit remains ot be seen ,
I've observed that for some people on this forum, standing around in kit 'looking good' is more important than playing a game well. I include Rich, Gadge, Spiers, Stubblehopper, WhosWill and others in this category, you know, the sort of people who are more worried about getting their kit dirty, or torn, than actually playing a game. If you look at us four, ours is usually the dirtiest, and sometimes most burnt (Dave) kit at the end of a game.
I like what's Kermit's written there. Let's take that as a basis and see if we what we can make of it. I would suggest the following additions/changes:
"WW2 Airsoft is exactly what it says on the tin. Airsoft in WW2 type clothing and equipment. However, that does not that mean you have to go out and spend £400 on all the equipment at the same time before you can get out on the WW2 skirmish battlefield.
At CiA events players choose their own level of kit realism - which can be from the simple "counts as" system right up to a 100% accurate reproduction of clothing and equipment from the period. A pair of brown overalls and a cheapsoft gun is all you need to get going. It's up to you to choose what level you want to start at, and not up to others to tell you what you should be wearing. Remember, this is Airsoft, so lining the enemy up in your sights, and playing for the whole day is at the heart of the experience.
If you want a taste of the fantastic experience players get out of attending CiA events, just head to the forum and take a look around, or visit the CiA homepage. You'll soon see what you're missing out on!
Make sure you check out the dates for the next CiA game and get booked in, regardless of what kit you have, you'll have a great time and will soon catch the WW2 Airsoft bug!"
*Penury is the absolutely perfect word for this, but will go over most people's heads! Hence my alternative suggestion.
That works well. Sets it all out clearly but doesn't come across as preaching. Good bit of editing Headshot.

Ta, since your post have made a couple of grammatical changes and put CiA in there just once more for good measure! Wouldn't want punters thinking a Gunman game was CiA now would we?
Do you think there's a case for people thinking that all the other games we're pushing are CiA events? Do we need to make this clearer? Not sure how we could mind!
NB: I'm still amazed that people said D-Day was the best game they'd played!
As my Nan used to say "people are generally, stupid"
The "wow" factor was the beach, the artillery and the numbers. Take any one of those three away, and you would have had a completely different view from them.

Looking good, I've added some links, a re-wording and an extra para (in bold) for your consideration.

And don't worry about coming on your own - the WW2 community is friendly and inclusive. It won't be many minutes before you are at the front line, shoulder to shoulder with the most battle hardened! Some players choose to join groups (you may see banners on their forum signatures) but there is nothing wrong with being your own man - be a team player and that's all that matters.

Good work gents , my only concern is if people take this as being a swipe at them . That said, it's probably those people who we could live without !
BTW Apologies for being ratty these past few days , I seem to be getting around 3 hours sleep a night (I know violins from Kermit ) and that linked to my increasing boredom at work are leading me to be more grouchy than normal .
On the upside I spent 4 hours last night thinking about how we can make the Ostfront game a good "un
Funnily enough, you will get some sympathy from me. I have chronic insomnia that goes on for months, disappears for a bit, then returns. It *does* drive you crazy. Just look at some of the times i'm posting on the forum at
David, that looks spot on to me. Will some take it as a swipe at them? probably, but you cant please all the people, all the time. And those that take offence are those that are causing the problem anyway (so who cares?)

Just to wrap this up - I have added a chunk of the text to the 'Newcomers' sticky post on the forum and I'm sending it as a PM to new signed members. Just got this reply from Couchpotato - I wish we had done this before now.
Thank you very much for the warm welcome. I have been into airsoft for two years now and I have always been interested in WW2. I have all the DPM kit but its now more shoot them up and not tactics etc. I got chatting to a guy at the site I go to and he was into the Band of Brothers. I got the DVD for Xmas and thought well maybe its time for a change. I have followed this webb site for a year now and have now taken the plunge and here I am.
I will with a little luck be a long to an event or two this year and I am trying to get a few of the guys at my site interested. I am interested in the GI load out and the German (the wife don't like me dressing as a German), but we will see!
Thanks again, I will be posting questions soon, so please be patient as you may well have been asked before.
Regards,
Robert. (couchpotato)
And again.....
Hello!
I've been airsofting for about 3 years now, mainly at First and Only and South Yorkshire Airsoft (mostly when it was still lightfighter). After seeing the increasing numbers of axis troops turning up to F&O, I did some research and ended up here. I'm greatly looking forward to my first WW2 game, and have already started kitting up (Julian at Epic Millitaria has been most helpful). My friend and I are interested in hooking up with a US Airborne group - could you recomend someone to talk to?
Many thanks for the welcome!
