I've just been talking to Paul Dalby - he has suggested a game at a location they use for reenactment battles at Ashby-de-la-Zouch (easy to get to from M1 or A38).

It's a broadleaf woodland with some stuff built from previous games (basic trenches, fox holes and defensive positions) that would lend itself to a living history/airsoft scenario.

I don't know whether you have seen the vids from last week (Helga went there for the social) but here you go: http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=W8RRxdkCmE8 (and there are others in the series) - absolutely ghey. Sounds good but they don't even target and enemy let alone show the most basic of tactics (walking in front of own guns, using a shrub as defence or just stand in the open and fire     ). But at least you can see the surroundings...

The farmer would let it out for £500-600 for a weekend and is very disposed to battles. No bangs after 7pm seems to be the only rule other than don't burn the wood down.

I would really like to try a game that has a bit more role-playing to it and this is a site that would be easy to get to as well as being new to airsofters...

Hmm...how many acres ?
5-600 seems quite a bit as well , I've been offered use of a site inc the insurance for that .
Worth investigating further though .

It's big - can't remember the size but Dalby recons 100+ players would be OK (although clearly we don't want 100 players!)
A 40 player day-game at F&O would cost us £800

I'm interested in X-site as well, it's just that the more local the game the easier and more convenient everything is to arrange.

Incidentally I don't think an 'Ashby' game would be complicated - the twist is the LH bit...

We'd be covered by insurance for that £800 ...as you know a days PLI is between 350 and 500 plus a ballache to arrange. not trying to be negative just pointing it out .

Yes, indeed.

However, if the game was sold to reenactors as well as airsofters - a cross-over event - then we can use PD to officialise it and run it under one of their organisation's insurance. He is certainly keen to sell airsoft to the reenactors, many of whom are closet airsofters or wannabe airsofters, just looking for a 'legitimised' event.

Sell it to the airsofters as showing reenactors what airsoft is all about and vice versa. As long as the mindset is right all should be OK.

25 a side should be manageable as well as feasible.

Does our AFRA insurance not include PLI for events anyway?

Ashby's a great location and very accessible.

The prob would be that all players would have to be AFRA members and therefore a longer term objective - shorter term it would be better to come under an organiser's cover.
