I've just remembered a weird convo from Gadge in the early stages of the social last weekend. He was babbling twenty to the dozen and said just recently he was arrested under the Mental Health Act as it was feared he was attempting suicide on a railway line. He fought with the arresting officer and was detained. Doctor/psychologist said he wasn't mental and he was released - apparently they couldn't charge him for assaulting a police officer as they had arrested him on another charge.
Total complete bullshit. I'll quote the relevant legislation that shows he's talking crap as well, if anyone has even the remotest interest (its fuck boring though

doctor saaid he's a registered mental patient under medication / supervision and therefore police let him go becasue CPS won't bring a conviction...provided he hadn't really hurt anybody ...mind you knowing Gadge it was all just a dream anyway

With out lot its all about attitude really and a willingness to join in and particiapte to the best of your ability (something you appear to have the right attitude to and were prepared to do)
We'd rather have a guy whose keen and whose kit needs working on who'se happy to show bren gun drills to a fmaily who are keen to see than a living museum piece who just wants to drink tea behind a rope.
You can lend kit and impart skills but its hard to impart a can do attitude. Half our lot are ex forces and we find ex forces memebers get on well with us. The only issue we have is that most of us have years of 'modern' drill ingrianed into us thats tricky to beat out.
As the others have said just sounds like you've clashed with one person. Its happened to me in the past, not in re-enactment but with a former airsoft team where I founded it with one guy and it over the course of a couple of years tunred into a playground popualrity contest where I didnt feel welcome in my own team so left!
