I went to a themed game day today at Swynnerton. Mainly to get some use out of my modern kit but, also to speak to the site operator about the possibility of running a WW2 game there. He was very helpful and, said, that it was something he would be happy to let us do. I didn't push too much, having got the answer I was looking for. He did suggest going back to do a site recce and, to give him an idea of numbers and the sort of event we'd be running. He did say that some of his staff would have to be present in order to satisfy the Commandant but, they would keep their distance and let us get on with it.

My idea for the site (it's huge) would be to run an "Operation Paperclip" type game, where we can have British, US, Russian, German AND civilians, in a sort of treasure hunt/E&E/objective based event.

What do you reckon? Is it worth trying?

It's worth a go I reckon. I've got a busy year, but there are some spots I can free up. June/July and Oct/Nov possibly.

Looks an interesting site - almost a shame trying to cram a 'fits-all' game into it as it looks like we could get several scenarios out of it with multiple visits. :P An Op Paperclip scares me a bit as it will require a lot of prep over a large area, but I'm willing to listen! It might even be possible to run our game alongside an open day given the space available (I'm thinking about costs/numbers here.)

There is an open day on March 2nd. Recce?

March is do-able for me (even though I start nights the next day). I can get in touch with the operator and get things moving if we can all make that date? If we can't all get there for that day, I may still go to the open day, as I enjoyed myself yesterday and, I can have a longer chat with the relevant people.

Paperclip was just floating an idea. If you guys have any other ideas (bearing in mind I have zero WW2 kit now!), then shout them out.

Well, can we you guys make that date? It's a bit dead on here and, I've been waiting for an answer to my previous post.

I certainly can, that's why I suggested a recce on the 2nd!

Swynnerton is a big site and, it really needs all 3 of us to be there. I'll talk to the operator on sunday and look at alternative dates.

Yes, to talking to Close Action Steve. If Grafton is a "go" again, it would be a shame not to do something there, I really liked the site.

I've got a mad couple of months for weekends. It might be best if you both just go down there are have a look anyway.

The only dates I can do before the end of April are:

8 March

12/13 April...at a push.

Then I'm not free until 10th May.

Yes, went there for an open day. The bloke who runs it all wasn't there (or, at least, I never saw him if he was!). Waiting for more game dates to go up and then I'll make contact again and see if there's a day when we can all go there.

As a quick update on this, Urban 6 have had Swynnerton pulled from under them by the MOD for the forseeable future. It's not an isolated case, as other MOD sites are having the same done to them. Something to do with new training commitments for the Army and T.A, apparently.
