Operation Weserübung - invasion of Norway. You can choose between:
Gebirgsjäger
Heer Infanterie
Fallschirmjäger
vs
Various Norwegian and British infantry units, including the Hallamshires!

Interested in gathering thoughts on this , say Pre 1942 games ..

Historically we could have

Blitzkreig - France, Belgium Holland, Denmark , Norway etc inc Dunkirk
Or Greece
Or barbarossa
Or a bit of desert Action

But no fecking Yanks

Hmmm so to realy cut it , it's got to be really hot , or really cold . Northern France would just be too samey I think . did consider Dunkirk , but without a beach , or lots of Stukas it would be a bit lame .

Maybe not Dunkirk but the retreat to Dunkirk? That gives plenty of scope, especially if there was a decent urban site or semi rural. Could include stuff like setting roadblocks, holding advancing German troops off at certain strong points.

In this kind of scenario, as early as that would there be any partisans/ French volunteers?

What other Dunkirk is there other than the retreat?

As apposed to being on the beach...the BEF got further inland than Dunkirk, then they were pushed back to Dunkirk. For instance the the 51st Infantry Division was left behind at Saint-Valéry-en-Caux and later surrendered to the Germans, that was 20 miles West of Dieppe.
What I mean was that you don't have to be on the beach...it could be a bit earlier in the retreat.

Desert would be a chance for some great Brit kit and some Italians, but it would require a, you know, desert or something.

I assume, of course, that Poland would require too much of a uniform change.

Yes, I know. My grandfather was captured inland in Northern France.

Thing is, Dunkirk without the beach would be like a porn without the muck chuck.

There was quite a bit of fighting in land of Dunkirk , although gameplay would end up a bit like Husky ... big battles always retreating .
French ...er "run away ...run away ...er ... ok we'll join the Germans "

Poland would be ok , suggest Brit kit probs not too far away , no sure there much meat there though . Commando raids ??

Good question.

Couple of things that appeal to me:

A mainland Italy event
Invasion of France
Raid on the Lofoten Island
Battle of Mortain
Operation Lüttich
Another Ruskie bash.

How about first days of Barbarossa? Much the same effect but the other way round?
