As has already been stated, Heer and Waffen SS troops are amongst the historically-correct units, so if you want to portray them, all's good and proper. However, at this stage of the war, the Fallschirmjäger kit was very varied, and was already borrowing heavily from standard Heer kit stores.

Green, splinter pattern or tan/water smock, or "Luftwaffe FD" splinter jacket.
Standard gas mask tin or FJ cloth holder
Jump boots, standard low boots or even jackboots
Blue or green breadbag
FJ M38 or standard M35 helmet (LW blue). LW sidecap or ski cap acceptable (although helmets were much more common in combat)
K98 bandolier or leather K98 pouches, 3 or 6-mag MP40 pouches, G43 pouches (if anybody's got one!)

It would be great to have a sizeable FJ contingent, so if anyone has any FJ gear they're happy to lend out, please put it in the kit lending thread. :)

Looks like we might have six FJ already. Anybody fancy transferring to the airborne so we can make up a full Gruppe? As Andy points out, all you really need is a borrowed jump smock.

I have a selection of Splinter knockensacks that I can bring - 1 Type 2 and the others are Type 3

We could have 8 already if you count the 2 LFD and Carl is going FJ. A couple more would be good though. I've still got a splinter knockensack and side cap spare, along with my 'look a like' boots (BCH's). Possibly a K98 bandolier and FJ Y-straps too depending upon what webbing I decide to use and if I remember to order a set of new Y-straps from RU.

if you count the 2 LFD

From the FJ description above, even though me and Tim are coming as LFD we could easily pass for FJ - splinter camo (one LFD jacket, one smock) etc. I just need my Luftwaffe belt buckle to turn up in the post! As indicated above, Luftwaffe ground troops of whatever flavour were wearing a ton of Heer stuff by late 44.

Cheers

From looking at the booking list it seems that our unit of 3.FJDiv. is made up of the following:
Fandanglos - Assistant Squad Leader
Steiner - Squad Leader
Snyper - Rifleman
B&H - Machine Gunner
JD7 - Rifleman
MartinR - SMG Assault trooper
Lardy - No.2 gunner
MacScrooge - SMG Assault trooper
Seidler - No.3 gunner (at least for a bit) :happyclap:
Iwanejko - SMG Assault trooper
Achtungnate - SMG Assault trooper

Could anyone who wants to transfer (with the help of one of Del's loaned smocks) please say Aye.

Let's also have some proper roles so we can have a crack at some proper FJ unit tactics. Volunteers wanted:
Squad Leader
Assistant Squad Leader
Machine Gunner
Assistant MG Gunner
MG Ammo Carrier
Rifle / SMG assault troops x 3+

We can change roles during the course of the game providing the squad leader agrees and the rest of us know about the change. None of this: "carrying ammo boxes is boring, I'm off to shoot somebody" nonsense. Sound like a plan?

I believe we can also add Herr Seidler to the FJ roster (unless he goes Ami).

I'm happy to lead us all to our deaths - and I'm badged up as Unteroffizier, too. :)

Updated.

Although any Op Alsos style 100% casualty rate incidents may result in you being relieved of your command :giggle:

Dag nabbit! I'd just about forgotten about that, and now you bring it up again!

Anyway, it was Ranj's fault for stepping on the Schu-mine.

I think Tiny is going as WfSS. If there's 20 of us we really need two of the beasts anyway.

I've put in some requests, but as these custom guns are all labours of love it's obviously a much bigger ask than just borrowing an MP40. :D

I'd be very happy to have a more realistic role, but far too much of a newbie to aim for the elevated ranks of assistant gruppenfuehrer. Default option, SMG assault troop as SMGs are the only WW2 weapons I've got... don't mind taking a turn lugging ammo or whatever, I almost invariably play a medic in standard airsoft. If we are going to be spendng two days running up and down the side of Ilkley Moor, I think I'm going to need a medic.

wrt the MG42s, I have this dim recollection that late war FJ sections generally had two MG42s. If we haven't got any at all then maybe we could be a sturm gruppe! The other option would be to split up into elements of 3-4 and treat each as a mini-section to do the fire & movement thing. We'd almost have a complete FJ platoon then (rather scaled down). I shall leave it to more experienced heads though.

So, do need to dig out the German squad tactics manual and learn all the various formations and commands?

Cheers
Martin
