Well, we put on event which would allow people to use their M42's and M43's in a proper context and, we get more leg infantry than airborne! To me, that shows that any US based scenarios in future may as well be centred on the leg infantry. Seems more like common sense to me (and that's coming from someone who has airborne kit!).

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

really? Quite frankly that was uncalled for. Let us hope that more repesentative impressions does not sound the death knell for this genre.
The ordinary soldier, I'm sure would be much happier without us so called "elite".

Uncalled for? By 'representative' I meant representative of the total wartime participation. We haven't put on an event yet that specifically was aimed at US airborne-kitted players, feeling that we hadn't perhaps done enough to cater for them. Luckily we had the foresight to carefully choose a scenario that included other US troops in a very meaningful way so we at least had a fighting chance to pull off a full US side should jumpsuits not flock to book. And yes, the demographic has changed since we started - at one time we doubted we could even get enough Germans for a game as there were so many airborne!

With the current level of bookings it looks like we're going to miss the minimum number required to go ahead by 5, I've done a calculation and if all the players were willing to give an extra £6.82 that would cover the short fall, I would really like this to go ahead and would be happy to pay a little bit extra to ensure that it does.

Very kind of you chaps, in fact a very humbling suggestion.

I'm pleased to say this event WILL be going ahead as planned. The site owners have very kindly reduced the cost of site hire which makes the economics work.

So, huge thumbs up to those who have booked already.
There are a few who said they would be booking and haven't yet as well as a few who were said by others might be coming so come on chaps, do the deed ASAP as I'm sure 20 a side is doable.

Excellent news (although I would have been willing to chip in some extra cash as well).

As a complete CiA event newbie, I noticed that many of the older games have quite detailed scenario specific rules about ammo, medic rules etc. Will there be something similar posted for Devils Hill, or shall we just pick it up from the veterans?

Cheers
Martin

Yes, I'll post up the rule set over the weekend - not a great deal difference to 'normal' TBH although machine gunners might be pleased with e tweak

Great news. £6.80 would have been do-able, but £6.82 is taking the piss :). Echoing CW: could those who have said they'd come either pay up or make their excuses. The silent treatment is a bit too French for this forum (French is the new Ghey - can someone make an emoticon?)

OK, just two weeks to go. The German side (at the time of writing) has 19 players booked, the US just 15.

Now, some players have very kindly offered to swap from their preferred side to even the numbers. However we would much prefer players to play their first choice so here is an appeal for the last few US players please to get their places booked as soon as possible.

Are we allowed to use whistles in game, or are they for emergencies only?

You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier

Ukuleles only I'm afraid. :giggle:

We will be using a whistle for game on and endex only so no reason not to use them in game.

I think it should be the yanks that get the sausages. They'll need the energy for all the walking up and down the hill they'll be doing whilst we sit on the top drinking beer.

Up and down?

Typical Kraut overconfidence - we will be taking a leisurely stroll up hill, graciously accepting your surrenders on the way.

More newbie questions so bear with me...

I was just having a look at the rules and it says we have an ammo limit of 300 rounds but that we can reload at CPs - so can we carry more ammo with us as long as it isn't in mags, or do we have to dump it? Do we ever go back to the safe zone to restock (thinking of pyros). Just trying to work out how much stuff I'll need to be carrying around, what bags to use etc.

Cheers
Martin

Good questions.

Once the game is on there will be no return to the safezone or car park so everything you need for a five hour battle must be carried into the game. So, you need to think of what you really need and that you can do without. You don't need to bring a selection of guns into the game. If your gun does fall to bits you have an option of soldiering on with what you have, making yourself useful, but there isn't an objection to exit the game with commander's permission to get a spare from the car. That is to say, we don't want you to have a crap time 'cos your gun broke but we don't want people shuttling back and forth to the cars!

All your ammo can be carried on you, you are trusted to just use your allowance and reload at CP's. If you only have 4 low cap MP40 nags (for example) then it is perfectly OK to reload these to get to your allowance - so don't be surprised to see people reloading away from the CP.

You will be able to stash at CP's but as these can be overrun then be prepared to move kit constantly - best bet is to travel light, you need much kit if you think about it.

But please - no plastic carrier bags, nylon gun bags and similar modern crap to be taken into the gamezone please. It looks so :ghey: and destroys all suspension of disbelief. From 'game on' you are back in 1940's!
