Aye, don't generalise, specialise. Also, don't run this by committee, run it as you want it run. Pick up the reigns, say what you want to do and stick with it those who are with you will follow. (Best ask Webby what he wants to do with it first though as it was his idea, with Rhys's.)

The other point, hello everyone by the way - I go away for two days and posts start appear, is that you do not have to be part of any of these groups (PBI, etc etc) to play in a game, it's just for that little extra.
oh and Infantry all the by my book
, they have three time the look according to funkometric calculations.
Marsha, to pick you up on your point about accuracy. Originally Rhys and Webby's intention was to try to up the bar with kit accuracy but a lot of people didn't want to do that so the rules were watered down a little and probably rightly so because it was early on in the WW2 airsoft game.
Now, lots of people have a really good level of kit which would comply with the rules that were being suggested, so no reason not to issue kit rules. (If that's what the someone who leads this wants to do)
What would be great is if we could match this excellent level of kit with the attitude to in-game 'discipline' and suspension of disbelief that the PBI and Axis groups go for - command structure, following orders, training days, parades etc. It all adds to the game and is part of the reason we all got into this side of airsoft in the first place.
Chatting with Chommers today, what we do is less like airsoft (judging from the styles of play we saw at the open day today) and more like WW2 Battle Enactment.....note NOT Reenactment. We don't pretend, we actually do it.

With this suspension of disbelief thing, i think you've gotta find a balance...Training and tactics yes...but being paraded around and marched is a little too much like reenactment, so a healthy balance is key. It obvioulsy works for the people in PBI.
But it could be intimidating to newer players that are there for airsoft.
People who want to just airsoft (never been to an open game, so will wait until I experience this myself before commenting
) can still play. These groups are for those who want to immerse themselves in the period and not necessary just airsoft in nicer hats.
I think Headshot has the best point in regards to 'what it should be'. People who run the doughboys (whoever they may be) say what they want from it, and people either join or say 'nah, I'll just come dressed as an American'. I think if you make it a broad church for all American players then it will inevitably collapse.
I dont mean the open day guys...I mean the newer players that book to these events...It could just be intimidating to them seeing everyone marching and so forth.
When you say broad do you mean infantry and airborne? Just sticking to one or other?
Hmmm, I think if I saw a load of highly organised people forming up and marching off I'd think "I want to be part of that". Horses for courses I suppose.
Also, when new players see how friendly all you guys are they'll soon be sucked in!

I was just about to say, anyone intimidated has to spend 4.3 minutes on this forum to realise it is a top notch group of the friendliest chaps. It is also easy to make it clear, as PBI does, that you do not have to be part of the PBI to play as a Brit, so people coming in new (as I did) can have a looksee and get to know people a bit. I don't think there is much of a chance of people viewing CiA, or any of its little spawnlings, as being intimidating.
I mean broad church as in trying to cater to what everyone wants to get out of/give into the group. Though given that these groups are somewhat 'informal' there is no reason why there cannot be a 'doughboys' and a 'Screaming eagles' group, to cater for infantry and airborne.
And talking of doughboys is sticking to one, no other needed. ![]()

thats true when i saw how friendly you guys were at my first event i really got sucked into it never looked back
Sorry about being a bit non-responsive guys, yes I have got a new girlfriend, but I've been getting to the point where I'm starting to enjoying playing airsoft less.... so I'm just giving it a break for a rest and only going to events (instead of open days and the like)
Doughboys was originally a thing thought up by Rhys and myself, but since he's no longer playing it has fallen behind a little bit. We have tried before to get everybody patched up as the same thing, it's a little harder to co-ordinate than the PBI stuff, as there are so many "cool" US units, however I am up for anybody expressing an interest in what unit to do, aslong as we it's suitable for everybody to do.
I have at least 1 of everything, so whichever I everybody wants to do, I'll be there ![]()

My point would be though if people don't toe the line then they clearly don't really want to me a member of the group and hence shouldn't be members.
Exactamundo Rich.

i think this is where the mistake is that there are so many units
ok heres my example my last event was "in the pocket" i couldnt tell you how many units we had,we had no leadership no one knew what to do
basicly we were pants.
i think we should have 1 unit for infantry
1 unit for airborne
Thats why I vote 82nd then we can have Airborne and GIR and they fought in a fair few campeigns and change the name Doughboys to All Americans, then we can satisfy a broader group and the only thing you need to do to be in the group is wear the 82nd badge which can be easily changed if you realy wish after events, I know webby and Headshot both do 82nd, either that or if you realy want only infantry then I vote first Infantry because of their large battle tours, but I feel that 82nd is a more sensible idea and caters to both the infantry and airborne guys and would still look like a unit, the thing is if you dont want to join the group and badge up as everyone else, then dont join doughboys just play as an airsofter, theres plenty of people who attend the games who arnt in any of the groups.
I think the 82nd's glider as a 'first get up' (like the South Staffords), followed by the 82nd's Paras as a second (like the No2 Commando) - Or in all frankness I am personally fine not doing the Airborne, leaving that to another group of chaps and sticking with he doughboys - Any unit, just a change of badge.
Why?
1 - 82nd fought everywhere, especially compared to the 101st
2 - Doing glider infantry means you can 'fit in' if (well, not if but when) there are loads of para's about at a game
3 - Leg infantry look better, sorry but it is a provable fact - see earlier funkometric calculations.
3 - 101st bore me
, I like band of brothers but have watched it so many times I go 'meh'. Also the 101st exist in 'zeitgeist'. From the tone of the series to the feel of the games that feature them I would feel guilty somehow if I didn't rub ash on my face till it was a pallid gray, become actually fit by starving myself for a month and stare wistfully into the middle distance in memory of past corporals. That's great if it is what you want, but I do have my commando magazine desires, and the AA feel more appropriate to large 'war cigars'.
Anywhoo, theres my thinkings. And I don;'t even have any webbing yet. ![]()
Nice idea Wladek. Works well.
I've already moved over to 82nd anyway as my kit is more accurate to their campaign; plus I won't be forced to wear an arm pocket...... ![]()
If I come into some money at some point in the future, I may look into doing infantry, but feel my money would be better placed if I were to broaden into Brit, or more likely, German.

Yes... switching from US inf to US airborne is a much bigger thing than switching from SStaffs to 2 Commando. Much more than a beret and badge change. You've got Musette, Corcorans, M43 Jumpsuit, and then silly stuff like marigolds, jump rope, airborne helmet (etc). All stuff I know I don't want to have to get! (I might get the Musette though)
I'd be more up for a 2nd impression being 1st Div (etc)... means either a badge change or a 2nd badged M41, which isn't that much.
Or even late war M43 tunic and buckle boots... etc...
