Found a nice scarf when the missus dragged me to a sample sale the other day, so that's one totally unnecessary item sorted!

Next thing I want to grab is a jump smock. Since I've seen repeated mention of repro jump smocks that are incorrectly made in Splinter A, I've tried to find a direct comparison. The only one that really comes up is the one from ATF, but it's now a dead link :-|

From what I can see, Splinter A has more elongated brown shapes in the pattern. Correct? It would seem that the ones from Epic are then Splinter A. Am I right in thinking that the Type 3 smock from Spearhead would be a better choice? Just trying to get some confirmation before I pull the trigger on an item I will (eventually) not be happy with.

I will get the Fliegerbluse, Springerhosen, belt and Y-straps from Sturm, as I have recently found out I can get them cheap. A friend of mine sells Mil-Tec clothing in his shop and he said he'll happily order anything from the Sturm catalog for me :happydance:

Yes, the best value splinter B smocks are probably from Spearhead. The alternative would be a green one from Epic.

These BGS Y-straps seem pretty close to the cavalry straps to me...or am I wrong?

These are what I use. The front hooks have a pair of sprung clips on them, which I think is technically "wrong" for wartime straps, but you can't see them when you have them attached to mag pouches and they don't unhook themselves, which is a bonus when you're crawling around.

Aren't Underwood's in the area of 60 quid?

Thing is, I can get a pretty good deal on these if I buy a minimum of 5. I'd have to sell the other 4, but I could probably get away with getting rid of them for 15 quid posted and not lose money. Off to negotiate on the total price of the order now. Once I get that in, I'll be well on my way with the FJ kit :happydance:

Those post war straps are the same as I use too. Maybe not historically accurate, but as BedsnHerts says, more practical.

No, they're £38.50 (his new site is finally up).

Ah, finally. Cheers.

Not a bad price, I'll see if I can cancel the others.

Smock seems a bit on the large side. Guess the XL would have been big enough after all. The XL service shirt certainly is spot on for size, but the colour seems a bit too dark (Spearhead mouse grey one).

Kit is making rapid progress :D Much faster than anticipated, in fact. Going to the army open days end of the month, where I hope to score some of the old Dutch brown boots. With a little luck I can scrounge everything (bar weapon) together before Dukla Pass and hitch a ride to the event from the Peak District (I'll be housesitting in Bakewell first 2 weeks of August).

As far as insignia goes, I'm just going for Jager. Single metal gulls on collar tabs and breast eagle for Fliegerbluse and breast eagle for jump smock looks to be the bare minimum? Who do you recommend for insignia?

ooOOooo, you're right! I did check the pockets, but I must have missed one. I'll sew it on at a later occassion, want to wear it out a couple of times to get the new off. Will probably Nikwax it as well.

Underwood for insignia, helmet and Y-straps then, cheers :good:

Just received my jump trousers from Epic, but unfortunately they seem rather small. By no means the baggy affair I assume they should be, judging from pictures.

I also have a feeling they're on the short side - my own fault really, I went by the waist size listed and didn't take into account the fact I have long legs. As it is now, the cuffs end just above my ankles. How long are they supposed to be? And will these Sturm ones be longer if I order a waist size up?

Taking it off, I have just noticed a few things:
- There are keyhole slots underneath the waist adjustment tabs - what are they used for?
- I assume the loops on the inside at the rear are used to tuck away the tabs that button up to suspenders when not used?
- There's another loop just below these - what is it for?

I believe the ones Epic sell are Sturm. Yes, you'll need to get a bigger size for the correct length - they should come right down to your ankle bone. You can wear a web belt with them, but for best fit, get some braces - they're meant to be worn with them.

No idea. Mine have just got closed-up button "holes". I'm guessing they're a feature of originals.

Yep.

Just to hang the trousers on a hook, I guess.

Yeah, I have braces with them. Iconic, plus they do a much better job of keeping your trousers up than a belt.

Definitely too short then, because they sit about an inch above my ankle bone now. Hopefully one size up will be long enough. I'll either try to get them changed to a bigger size or will make due with these for now and pawn them off to someone else when I can afford to buy a new pair.

Should be absolutely no problems with sending them back to get the next size up. Distance Selling Regulations means that you have 7 days from the recipt of goods to send them back for a full refund anyway...

After contact with Epic today, I decided to send them back tomorrow and have them exchanged for 2 sizes up. I'll have to suffer the postage there and back, but less hassle than trying to flog them on.

Here's my kit as it stands now.

Obviously room for improvement, but the basics are there.

* I do have Kochgeschirr, will have a green Brotbeutel next week.
* Still looking for an affordable waterbottle.
* Helmet after my summer vacation.
* Fliegerbluse after helmet, before Devil's Hill.
* Going to a large surplus store next Tuesday to see if I can source some old Dutch brown boots (need a pair to complete my Dutch Cold War kit as well). If I can't find those, I'll get some Gamaschen to hold me over. Green, Blue or either?

FJ didn't wear Gamaschen, so that's £10 you've saved! Have you got a Luftwaffe breadbag? One for sale, here for a tenner. viewtopic.php?f=11&t=10864

Looking good.

Unless money is no object the Fliegerbluse can wait. It will be too hot to wear in-game anyway.

Money is a bit of an object. That's why I have deliberately left out the Fliegerbluse until somewhere before Devil's Hill, where it might be nice to have something warm during downtime.
I've decided to start selling most of my modern kit after my vacation, so that should free up some funds to complete the whole thing.
