hi guys

i've been thinking of doing a Luft FD impression and came across these at Spearhead - [link]http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WW2-German-Fallschirmjager-Type3-Padded-Winter-ParkaXXL-/360183470596?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item53dc9b9a04[/link] - They look like regular Heer mouse grey parkas, but appear to be quilted.

How common were these among FJ and Field Division troops ? Osprey's book on the Field Divisions shows some Volstad artwork of an FD Jager on the Eastern Front wearing one - i just wondered what you guys thought of them

thanks

I've not seen many pictures of that type of parka. You're better off buying a quality, "unquilted" mouse grey one from Militaria.net or Epic. At least you can then exchange it, should it not fit and it will be more suitable for more periods of the war.

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!

I concur with Pete. Also, skirmishing in a padded parka would soon get uncomfortably hot! I would recommend the Luftwaffe splinter pattern jacket - suitable for both later-war FJ and also FD.

SoF do them in the splinter A pattern, which is not quite correct - the Luftwaffe used splinter B pattern, which is subtly different. However, for £39.99, you can't complain. I've had a good look around and I can't find anywhere else that sells them, unless you want to spend more money.

i think you're probably right - an FD splinter field jacket over wools would probably be warm enough... i suppose if i did get one of the parkas it would be more for posing

on the subject of the field jackets, Richard Underwood is selling ones at about £60 - i assume these are better quality - more accurate than the SoF/Epic ones, although his appears to be Splinter A as well...

Heh, I didn't mention Underwood's ones because I believe they're the same splinter A "Sturm" ones, as Epic.

The alternative would be this very nice one from Panther Stores, but at 125 Euros.
