Very useful thanks for posting.

I asked this question a while ago but Gadge was the only person who knew any Russian and his (admittedly vast) vocabulary was limited to swear words.

Responses to orders...

Yes = Tak Tochno Tovarishch Komandir - Exactly So/As You Wish Comrade Commander

No = Nikak Nyet Tovarishch Komandir- Not at all Comrade Commander

Attack/Close with the enemy/Get in about his giblets = Na Shturm, Marshch!

And Otdeleniye (Detachment/Section) is better than Svad.

As soon as I can scan/type them in I'll post the hand signals.

edited for crap phrasing!

So, sad git that I am, I went off to check some of this. In my (1953 dated) Russian-English dictionary the word Svad simply doesn't exist.

I then went to the translation of the 1942 Combat Instructions for the Infantry (available from Battlefront.com amongst other places) and it clearly translates Otdeleniye as 'Squad'.

So if we're doing GPW then I'd stick with Otdeleniye.

And even sadder! I think I've figured it out.

The word Vzvod means platoon. I bet that's what they have as Svad.

I can sleep easy now....
