Hmmm, not a single bit of how i imagne any of the characters to look.

To me Cross of Iron was closer to Sven hassel book than wheels of terror, no wonder Sven hassel himself regrets the film being made :)

It might just be the American accents but Ididnt really take to that after watching those three clips.

The film is dire , both as representing the books and as a war film . It's more A Team in sophistication than When Eagles Dares  That said for a mid 80's effort, before Hollywood started putting the effort in with SPR, it's not that bad.

And "hahaha" ot the git who changed the thread title !

The bloke who played the Legionarre looked the part but his fight with Tiny was a bit camp there was no flips like in the book and all the kicking was abit un-manly but good entertainment.

Let face it, the books are the same factual level as the film, its all storys from hearsay.

what i like is the "spirit" in which it is done, haveing been with soldiers at "the bottom of the army shit heap" its so simmilar to the books, just in a modern setting.

bored , low morale soldiers get up to mischeif

The film lacked a lot of the visceral combat there is in the book . No one mashed under tracks, or decapited by entrenching tool .

They never put that kinda stuff in any films shame as it would be realistic.
