Welcome Steve - do you mean "Oddball" isn't his real name?! 
Daft question, have you adjusted the liner, using the drawstring? For my first couple of skirmishes, I didn't realise it was adjustable, and my helmet settled at all sorts of daft angles. Once I'd adjusted the drawstring, it fitted perfectly.

You can also put some padding inside the helmet rim above the leather if you undo the draw tie.
I have had to do it on mine, as it was a bit loose side to side.
I used some packing foam wrapped in gafa tape and hot glued it in, as it is behind the leather liner you can't see it.
But if the helmet just looks too big I see your point!
