heres a good video of how to fire the 42 from the hip.
if youve ever held a real one youll know just HOW HEAVY the front half of the gun is, and this must be really hard to do

If theres one noise I love on this planet its the sound of a MG42 firing! (along with the sound of 1996 stock tube trains
Nice video
I always like the staged shot of the guys using the mg loaders shoudler as a support and firing, I cant see that working and him hainvg much skin lef ton his hands and face or the ability to hear much!

Obviously not the pic you are looking for, but this was taken with a deactivated MG34 (converted to airsoft).

I am the AG in the picture...and trust me it was not comfortable!

That's was actually quite common practice - especially against aircraft - sometimes targets apear to fast to put up an AA tripot of Lafette... I've been the support once - Barrel on shoulder, hands holding bipod - don't get that hot, and strangely not that noisy... good fun though.
In world at war,the Desert episode theres a DAK soldier running forward with a mg42 firing it like a rifle
If its passed 9 there is a 95% chance im pissed.
Did fire a MG34 at Beltring once like that, Rob was not happy having to hold the legs. And the looks I got.........I was the medic...

First and Only Airsoft!!
I've fired a 42 like a rifle with 4 linked belts..... (that's 2300rds)
I've also fired it in walking support - tucked underarm holding the left bipod leg to steady it.
It's difficult to use as a rifle because it ejects brass underneath just forward of the trigger guard. But it can be done.
34 is a tad more difficult due to the small diameter of the round barrel jacket.... again can be done (It's way heavier than a 42)
Over the shoulder was commonly done - The No2 would chew paper or use cotton wadding in his ears (used to clean weapons and all soldiers carried it) (the chewed paper was stuffed in the ear!!!!)
I've got quite a ticked list of live weapons fired so if anyone wants info on characteristics etc. just ask. We are also talking modern stuff such as HK33 (Poacher has also fired these) MP5k, Glock 17, M16, AK47, but the list of WWII stuff is incredible from a P38 to a Browning .50cal.

Bastard! Just kidding. You're lucky, theres tons I'd love to try firing but have never had the chance. Plan to go to the states sometime soon so hopefully I will get my chance then.

He he!
We use real stuff in the re-enactments - We have Section V armourers who hire it out - One of them is a fairly good mate (well two of them are but one more so if you catch my drift)
