um isn't that a BMW cast off? Rover I mean lol

That would be ok as some German WW2 gas masks were made by BMW
Should a Luftwaffe blue gas mask canister have blue or green straps?

Sorry, daft question about paint coming up... I need some RAL 6006. Is my local Halfords likely to stock it - i.e. does every place use the RAL reference system?

If Halfords dont then any small independant paint shop should be able to mix you some up no problem in Eggshell or Satin finish but will not be an aerosol.
In theory your local Halfords should be able to mix a custom spray can for you - others have done so. When I tried the assistant looked blankly at the list of options and came to the conclusion it was impossible (although I know it is!). Short of leaping over the counter and scrolling through a few menus for him all I could do was walk over to B&Q. No problem there, she was a bit baffled but the screen is in front of you so I was able to assist in making the selection . It was the oil based eggshell I got - a 1 litre can was a tenner or something and will paint a 100 helmets and gas mask tins I suspect!
I seem to remember some militaria dealers stock spray cans - it might have been Richard Underpants...
If you do manage to crack Halfords then they will ask you to come back and won't do it there and then. The other option is a more car trade counter place, if you are brave enough to go in!
OK cheers CW. Zeltplane do spray cans, but I baulked at the 17 Euro postage - the item is only 5 Euros!

Eventually ordered it at Halfords - they couldn't make it up there because it contains a lead-based paint, which they're not allowed to stock. They're making me up a 300ml spray can of the stuff.

Result! (Weird about the lead though )
