So I have been reading Cross of Iron again - what a great novel and was struck by something I hadnt noticed before. The author mentions that Steiner and his platoon have hats bearing the edelweiss badge (it is when they are taking the russian uniforms I think, I am at work and dont have the bok to hand). This would lead me to believe they are members of a Gebirgs division. I dont remember this from the film but then again the film is very different to the book. Now I know there were Gebirgs units in the Crimea in 43 so it is very possible - does anyone have any more info on this?

Relatedly I quite fancy picking up an arm shield for my feldgrau uniform (gotta love the bling :) ). I have a Narvik shield on my camo tunic - does anyone know whether Krim shields were issued to any Gebirgs units?
