I have an original Torch which takes the large flat 4.5v battery. I saw on a US Re enactors forum that they use these which is a converter so you can put 3 1.5v AA batteries inside. Much easier and cheaper to get.
The only problem is I can source some cheaply but they want an arm and a leg for postage. If I order more the postage stays the same.
You are looking at £5 or less for each one.
