Putting a desert outfit together HG division and ive seen pictures of the chest eagle being black on the desert jacket (HERMANN GORING Re-Enactment Group ) is this right or should they be desert.Have to say though the black looks the dogs balls, any help would be great cheers gaz
Well, I think I'm right in saying it's just a Luftwaffe eagle - the backing depends on what uniform you're wearing. Kermit's the man to ask, though.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
ive got the Luftwaffe eagle but its black not desert
Black backed eagles were for the HG Div Panzer crews to wear.
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
yes but would the Fallschirm-Panzergrenadier-Division wear the black eagle on there desert jackets i say this because ive seen a picture on HG living history web site were he has a black eagle on a desert jacket
Just had a look at that video I posted on the Husky thread - the desert uniforms didn't look as though the eagles were on a dark background.
On Morigi's site he has Lufty Afrika chest eagles on blue-gey, field-grey and tan cloth to match garment underneath: http://www.regaliaspecialist.com/catalo ... 20-%20MANS
But specifically HG Panz Div on black
So I would have said match your uniform colour!
(He doesn't have any Officer's wire eagles on a tan background, just blue, black and grey.)
cheers dave just seems strange that a living history group would show a photo of them wearing a desert jacket with the black eagle pity as i think the black on desert look fooking mint
Book illustrations aren't the best thing to go by - perhaps anything was fine?
Definitely needs more research - perhaps post up the question on the reenacting forums?
the second photo down looks like a black eagle,
Heh, could be black, grey or blue!
never had this much hassle with me NAM kit
Heh, stick one of these on - no one will notice...

the second photo down looks like a black eagle,
Also note the 2nd Picture is of a Heer officer - look at eagle and collar tabs
2nd pic is an HG Training commander, 1944
Possible scenarios regarding badge variance:
1. They used any lufty eagle that was available
2. Osprey illustrations have a darkened edge for clarity and doesn't neccessarily depict black/grey/blue
3. They used lufty blue backing as a nod to their inheritance
4. They used black backing from Sicily onwards as they had become a mechanised division
5. Officers wore eagles with blue/black/grey backing as they were the only ones available with metal embroidery (if tan wasn't), other ranks wore the tan one
Any one got the Osprey book - does it say anything?
thats what i thought, from sicily onwards panzergrenadiers chest patch had a black backing

Yes, I have the book, and it implies that the border should match your uniform.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
leaving the black one on a living history group wouldnt put it on if they never wore it that way ,and doing the uniform as a Fallschirm-Panzergrenadier-mechanised division any way. cheers for the info
on off on off on off, will just but it on with selotape for now
