I have been looking into the engraved german bayonets and have found alot of posts that sugest that NO ISSUED K98 COMBAT BAYONET WAS EVER ETCHED NOR ALLOWED TO BE PERSONALIZED, BY ORDER OF THE WEHRMACHT has anyone out there come across such info! as sof are selling them including a british free corps one witch if origional would be in english? not british freikorps but freecorps is this correct? they do not state that they are genuine but at the price they are selling them you would think so! mmm looking at there site they do have them under there original section
First of all, the engraved bayonets you refer to are I think dress daggers, which were issued to the WSS among others. These were engraved, and were not for fitting to rifles (I don't think they can be, anyway).
The FreiKorps were a German organisation made up of British 'volunteers', but still administered by the Germans.

Yes but the point is they were officially known and referred to by the Germans as the Free Corps not the FreiKorps, so any paraphernalia with FreiKorps on it is wrong.
they are not dress bayonets
SoF sells some right crap
In general doing *anything* to your bayonet is frowned upon by most armies
(these days you'e not even allowed to sharpen your own)
In case you get allegations of 'modifying' weapons to create nastier wounds.
I know engraving isnt the same but i really cant see troops doing this myself
"I think we are in rats' alley - Where the dead men lost their bones."
i still have an "issue" sa80 bayonet.
its rusty as hell, when i was "tribal" in kenya i put thick tarry poision in to the blood vents, so even if some bastard killed me, id get them as long as i could stick em 1st. (hard as the masai carried spears and clubs "Out in the bush" )
lucky that the only time i felt the need to draw a knife, my "wife" jumped in first and hit the 2 guys b4 i got chance, for some reason they backed off (i think it was due to tribal status of the "wife" )
i washed it all off when coming back to uk through customs, but something remained in the metal and now its rusty where the poison was applyed, (god knows what was in it)
