Marschstiefels

I have a pair of black boots with toe caps that I use occasionally use for German and Russian impressions. I have never seen a pair of "proper" Marschstiefels with toe caps, but I have also read that the Germans invented steel toe caps at the end of WW2 and that some NCO's were issued with Marschstiefels with toe caps, does anyone know if this is true ? If it is, it might make me feel a bit better about wearing them!
