Does anyone know how widely used the MP28 was during WW2, and what sections of the armed forces used it?

Reading Wikipedia it states that the weapon was hardly used by the army but rather by police forces.

As above, it wasn't hugely common (the MP38/40 was lighter and more handy) but it was used by a few combat units, both Heer and Waffen SS, as well as police/security units. It is also a good substitute for a Lanchester if you fancy Royal Navy Commandos :)

For WW2 airsoft purposes, I am sure it would be fine.

As I'll be making it, it won't be a perfect copy , so it would probably pass (at a distance) for a Lanchester. MP18, MP28, MP34 or any other similar looking gun :good:, I have seen old archive footage of Heer units using them, did Gebirgs ever use them ?

Has anyone dimensions for a real MP28 ?

Not sure which version of the mp range this is in the 2nd pic, but I would say there is a high probability.-- attachment is not available --

I think that's a MP34 as it looks as though it has the bayonet bracket on the right of the barrel jacket and looks like the barrel projects beyond the barrel jacket, so thanks, that's good enough for me :good:

Not sure about the 28, but the 34 was manufactured in Austria, as half the Austrian army prior to the Anschluss were mountain troops they would almost certainly be issued some.

Okay so I'll go for the look of the MP34 as a target instead, I don't suppose anyone has some MP34 drawings?

The MP28 would probably be easier as you can use a Sten as the donor.

I am planning on using a Sten, I'll research the differences between the MP28 and MP34, and see if I can do the MP34, as I want to be able to revert back to the Sten when required.

Okay decided to go for the MP28 as that's easier to convert back to the Sten when needed, I've got some bits together so I can now start work on it...

It's from my sons old air rifle that was knackered, it will need a bit of reshaping, but is roughly the right size and shape :good:

there's a lanchester stock on taxavoidancebay for £35 but from a, shall we say, infamous dealer ;-) if you have no joy with the air rifle stock.

I was watching WW2 in Colour last night, and lo and behold, footage of a Heer infantry platoon occupying the Maginot Line with the Gruppenfuhrers armed with MP28s. They were probably a fourth wave infantry division equipped with WW1 castoffs, but even so.

I'm always amazed at what people can do with metal and wood, my skills are limited to painting and wiring. Great job!

Why do you always carry that umbrella?
