Thats right.
You occasionally see weird stuff like ive a photo of a gunner on a 25pdr with a US combat knife on his belt.
However its good practice in re-enactment (should any of you want to go that far) to go for the 'lowest common denominator' impression of the average squaddie in issue kit.
E.g. their is photo of a guy at Arnhem with 1st airborne carrying and using an m1 carbine, these were never on the books but if everybody chose to take that one photo as proof it was done and re-enact it you'd end up with a totally false impression in the eyes of th epublic as to the airborne soldier.
A lot of groups allow about 1 man in ten to carry a non standard or captured item.
Bu for our games, nobody will care that much.
My Grandad used a M1 carbine and a Thompson during the Italian campaign.
If its passed 9 there is a 95% chance im pissed.
Yes but my point is that on paper none were dropped at Arnhem, one obviously found its way into use.
But if every airborne re-enactor carried one cos of one cool pic it would be inaccurate wouldn't it?

Once again, good points Gadge. However, if you're doing it purely for your own personal entertainment, or as a 'free lance' reenactor/LH buff, then all well and good -
Indeed, i'm just stating the policy for 99 percent of groups you'll come across - especially as Lewis said he was keen to jon a re-enactment group.

I think i want to get a few games of ww2 airsoft first then i will have a go at re-enacting just like the idea of firing blanks at people enjoyed it befor.

I know where they came from, I wont bore you with details, but Glider Pilot Reg. were supposed to be operating with SAS a few weeks befour and hadnt had the 'carbines withdrawn.
can you freelance at renactment,
id love to go to an event and pop of some shots, but im not in to joining a hugh group with lots of rules.
id turn up as per the kitlist and take orders, but i woudnt want to be told what to buy when to attend etc etc
just some fun blasting blanks and dying, or being a panzer crew if any had armour, and needed a "head for a hatch"

Same with me that i dont want to be to serious i hope it would be like a shit cadet fire fight with poor rates of fire.

I freelance re-enact
I dont really do groups for much the same reasons as you guys.
means you can do railway events and dances but most proper shows require you to be in a group to take par tin battles.
Having said that by talking to a few people and being known as a good bloke (tm) i've been invited to take part in some battles with groups.
But thats through spending time talking to people at railway shows and on re-enactment forums.

just noticed, yours is cut diagonallly on the front breast wrapover.
mine and pauls are cut verticalwe have late war issue, yours is the EARLY version.
full pipeing, daigonal cut
ours are late issue, vertical cut, and no pipeing, (easier to produce)
The straight /vertical cut is actually the SS pattern jacket.
The slash style was wehrmacht. This crossed over onto the Field Grey 'stug' wraps too.
For the wehrmacht type the are two styles, early with piping and a rounder collar shape and a later style with no piping and a more angular collar with I think deeper cut outs. The later type was introduced early in the war but both types are seen though to the end.
The bit to watch out for is the cut of the double breasted slash. Sloped for wehrmacht, vertical for SS.
