Does somebody know of or can recommend a good barber/hairdresser/unit that can cut the ww2 german 1940's hairstyle convincingly?
Even if you take pics to show folk how the final product should look, they all seem to end up giving one the 'short back and sides' treatment leaving one looking like a Tommy at best?!
I'm prepared to travel really far from Milton Keynes to get it done correct...(mmmm, yes almost to the ends of the earth! )........please can somebody advise me on this........I'd be much obliged

You're better off just giving your own barber better instructions or showing actual pictures.
Good article of German haircuts here:

The shortest part is a "No.1 or a 0.5. You need to make sure they resist the urge to taper the longer hair too much. Cutting it off is easy, adding it on is a bigger challenge.
It's a bit far from Milton Keynes, but I do have a good barber in Worthing that can do a decent German cut. The main thing for me has been growing the length needed to get a decent sweep back, realistically your fringe should be to your eyes to get a good sweep back. It should be held in place with wax (horrid stuff) instead of gell to get a look that will stay there all day.
It helps if your barber has been cutting hair for some years, old school will know its not that far from a Teddy Boy's cut even with the DA at the back.
I'd be interested in any examples of German-style haircuts for the "follicly challenged"

Thanks for the link.....yet this is the very info I used, combined with a myriad other period photos showing all angles (the sides, back, front and top perspective) of the proper german haircut from....still 2 barbers and one hairdresser later I was starting to get a little more than frustrated!!!!
Haven't tried to get the lovely other half to cut my hair yet. ...just cannot bear to look in the mirror if it goes all wry again and then have the better half placed in such a precarious position.........thus the plead for major help!!!!!!! The perfectionist in me is dying a painful death, Sani!!!!!!
I would appreciate it if you see a great hair cut please ask them on my behalf who did the deed and let me know asap.....many thanks.
Fair comment about 'cutting it off is easy, adding it on is a bigger challenge@!!!!!!

Which can be quite a Prussian look !
Nice pic and shows how that fringe needs to be down over the eyes to get a proper sweep back. As these lads show it can lead to really bad hair days! Although the OP titled this thread "German hairstyle" it seems to be very much a universal haircut with troops from both sides having an inch shaved above the ear and then graded upwards with anything that fits under a cap being as long as possible. What comes below the cap line belongs to the Army, and what's above it is mine!
Found this scouring the net, Hopefully a good reference for a proper period German haircut. Just thought it was a great pic too
