I used to do the same, but after a soak with some Steredent tablets, it's fine to drink from.

it looks like the cover is a size too big. It is patterned after the 1 litre Gebirgs/medic flask.
The listing says it is 'iron' should be aluminium of course.

i have a number of originals and I've drunk from many of them, Milton [?] fluid once or twice a season is all they get.
I'd rather drink from 70 year aluminium than iron any day.
