While i'm waiting for funds to build up to buy a few pps k98 co2 mags i thought i would try and find another way to still take part in games - and i decided upon the role that no one really wants......we know the story were all stood round listening to the game brief and then the question who wants to be a medic?...then the silence....

I figured it would be a neat addition to a game/immersion to have a properly kitted out sani to take up the role and treat the injured  i've done a little research and would like a portray a Sanitätsunteroffizier (a medical NCO), this would mean sergeant or above, and i know some people can get touchy over rank? but i cant see it being an issue in airsoft games but id like your opinions before i commit, would you be happy to have one less rifleman in a squad, but in return for a dedicated sani? I will of course research the role more and equipment in more detail if the general census is yes (which i hope it is) :happyclap:

Just after your general opinions/thoughts

A good picture of the kit that could be carried...-- attachment is not available --

I've been to a few games where there was a dedicated non com medic and it worked well (its a lot harder than you imagine ,you'l be buisy and in danger ) but never forget that you could also borrow a gun for the day .

armoury
m1a1 Thompson,sten mk2,mp40,stg44,sterling,mk2 bren gun,lee Enfield no4 mk1,Mauser Kar98, Walther ppk,smith and Weston m10 and Mauser m712
Give me a big enough hammer and a place to stand and I could fix the world.
i'll kill a man in a fair fight or if i think he's going to start a fair fight or over a woman or.......
a problem shared is a problem halved ,but an advantage shared is no advantage at all
if a job's not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well

Could be fun having a dedicated medic.

I've got a Luger that I'll carry with me and our group had a 42 I could always lug round (I'm something of a glutton for punishment!) I could do with getting in shape so I'm hoping this will help....

No objections from me :good: the thing with the ranks is more so you get a realistic squad make up, & the organisers can direct the flow of the game.

Thank you! :good: I see what your saying, it certainly wouldn't affect airsoft games it's more I'm a sickler for detail n getting things right

If anyone has an old tunic ("42 chest) or 60" helmet this wish to find a new loving home for let me know :good:

The kit in the picture is a bit ott and many of those things would be 'accidentally misplaced'. Also many medics would have k98s and mp40s and thy would also normally be a solider first and a medic second so many things would be the same such as load bearing equipment. Link for the Panzergenadier chat on Medic stuff http://www.panzergrenadier.net/forum/vi ... ebeac5ea92

Also good luck on getting a repo water bottle their a bugger to get hold of the 1 litre water bottle

Hopefull this helps :good:

From an organisers point of view I would welcome someone who was willing to take on the non combat medic role on. It would add a greater dynamic to the game and it would be something that the player takes on and not something that is forced onto the player.
Good luck with getting it together it will luck awesome when its all together I am sure. :good:

Thanks for the Link Bunker, some great reference stuff there!!

Most of that kit is OTT for airsoft but it was issued kit, I'll probably pick up a tornisters and MG can and some pouches :good:

Sanitätsunteroffizier were medics first and foremost, effectively paramedics in today's terms there were "first aiders/responders" who were soldiers first then stretcher bearers who would be equipped as a soldier with a few medical items and nothing more than a Red Cross arm band, whereas Sanitätsunteroffizier were entitled to wear the blue waffenfarb. I've also got an original sani bottle but looking to replace the leather work with repo ones

Cheers Bigkie! Will certainly be something different!

I've played the "sani" role at a few games now, although none of them non-combat, as there is usually little enough players as it is. Some games have had a more involved sani role, and at one as was absolutely knackered at the end of the day after running around all day medicing people. I do like the role as it gives the game an extra realistic dimension. Some pictures of the kit I have...

I often opt for RAMC when doing any denison required games. It is knackering., but enjoyable. I carry a pistol or the sten for ' casualty defence'.Am i correct in thinking it was only the US medics that were unarmed?

I'm a hero with coward's legs.

I'm not up to scratch with allied medics unfortunately, but there are accounts German sani being unarmed when fighting the US/Brits as they were less likely to be fired on when compared to the eastern front...

From what I understand there was an agreement with the Geneva convention that all medical personnel shouldn't be targeted on the battlefield and thereto shouldn't be armed. Brit stretcher bearers weren't armed either, don't know about yanks mind. I think this dissolved in desperation towards the end of the war mind as I've read accounts of sten guns being used by stretcher bearers.

I can't say I've really looked into allied medics, but I believe medical personal on the frontline were allowed a pistol for self defence and the defence of the patient?

the problem with the Germans is they had at least 3 different frontline medical personal one was an infantryman (and armed with a k98) with basic first aid skills who wore a Red Cross armband during a cease fire etc, then there were Krankentrager who were basically first responders who carried the medical pouches but retained the waffenfarb of the company they were in and then Sanitatier were usually NCO's who wore the cornflower blue waffenfarb as they belonged to the medical company rather than other company's etc so a photo showing a fully equipped infantry man wearing a Red Cross arm band could easily be mistaken as an armed medic

I've decided for airsoft to put together a Heer sanitater with the cornflower blue waffenfarb carrying a Luger for self defence

I'm still undecided as to paint a helmet white with the Red Cross on - there's photos showing it was done but I don't want to draw extra attention to me if someone decides to ignore the Geneva convention

Yes that's my understanding. The articles I've read from veterans have said that on the eastern front medics were always armed and never wore a red cross as they were an easy targets for the Russians, on other fronts, only infantry medics would be armed on the front (fighting) line, and that it was only medical companies stationed at the rear, that wore helmets and bibs with red crosses. Obviously in the confusion of war I'm sure there were all sorts of variations to suit the situation.
In airsoft if I wear a red cross, I wear it on my right arm, so it's less visible when moving forward (as we are effectively always on the front line), as I have had comments that I stand out like a sore thumb :slap:

Hmmm might just leave the bib/painted helmet at home then, it makes sense to have just the armband on :good:
