Anyone had a punt on this? Any good?

On face value it looks like a decent deal; everything ready to roll.

I'm saving for the PPS Kar98, so this'll do nicely as long as it won't spontaneously combust on first wearing.

They are fairly typical repros, not the best quality but not the worst and as a bundle they are a reasonable deal.

My SOF belt is four years old now and still holding up, although it has had about a gallon of dubbin on it over the years to keep it supple.

You may have to chop up the inside of the K98 pouches to get airsoft magazines into them. Might not be necessary, but it generally is, depends on the mags. I just cut away the internal stitching at the back and the fold the remaining leather flap out of the way.

Cheers
Martin

Cheers mate.

In all honesty, everything I've bought from them has arrived in good/excellent time and seems 'good enough'. As an airsofter rather than a re-enactor, 'good enough' is fine with me. :good:

Seeing the quality and usability of the PPS Kar 98 at RoTT just sold this for me.

I got some beautiful brown K98 pouches from Richard Underwood - far and away the best I've seen, only £35. Code 15229.
Brown leather belt,£18.
Luftwaffe steel buckle, £25.

I'm not sure about those SoF Y-straps, because brown is more early war Luftwaffe, yet those have the extra straps for the A-frame, which is later war.

Did you specifically want Luftwaffe kit, as opposed to Heer (army) ?

Yeah, want the Luftwaffe kit to finish off my Fallschirmjäger impression. It originally only started out as a side project (let's face it, if you've got German kit, it's a guaranteed game,) after getting my U.S kit together, but after an event you always seem to notice what to improve on, what you need to get, etc etc. I felt pretty sparse next to the other German lad's.

I'll have a look at MN, tah for the head's up!

OK, FJ Y-straps did not have the metal loops and extra dangly strap bits, so those ones are not what you're after. Try TG507, if you want the SoF ones.

It's a myth that FJ always had brown straps, BTW. If you're going for flexibility / reusability, I would go for black, then you could at least use it for a Heer impression also (which you will end up getting! )

Please don't tempt me mate! :D

Thanks for the heads up, I'll have a look.

Every time I go to these events the standard of kit you guys have is amazing, but also sometimes a headache to try and emulate; looking around for the right stuff. Worryingly addictive as well!

I know the feeling. Almost finished Heer outfit and already thinking about FJ :D

Don't try and do everything at once or you'll end up buying twice (or thrice...). A lot of the gear you see at events has been accumulated over a number of years. The 'full kit challenge' is certainly fun, but you don't need to do it all at once.

You certainly don't need Y straps, just a belt and minimal belt kit - ammo pouches, bread bag and water bottle. I just wear my Heer black leather equipment with FJ and other Luftwaffe impressions and change the belt buckle accordingly.

Cheers
Martin

I think I'll take your advice and ditch the Y Straps... for now, so I'll go the route suggested.

I'm rapidly learning the value of patience with this and not simply running out and getting kit for the sake of it. I won't make that mistake again. After RoTT, I really recognised that the Sturm Smock I have from SOF just looks glaringly shit, or at least, not close enough to what I want.

Live and learn.

Incidentally, any chance that an ICS M1 Garand mag might fit in the K98 Pouch?

I'm guessing the answer is a definite no, but I'm a glass half full kind of chap. :)
