Hello all, I recently bought an M36 tunic and I'm looking at getting (and converting) some Swedish trousers to go with them as I've found some really cheap, and I was wondering how the colour of the wool compares?
Thanks, Dejan.
Hi Dejan, it's difficult to say. Wool uniforms notoriously did not necessarily match up, but I have absolutely no experience of Swedish stuff, so I don't know how it compares with repro German wool. My advice would be to get repro German. Don't be in a hurry, and you will eventually find what you're looking for.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
Thanks, I'm only considering them as they are so cheap, I'll keep my eye out for repro trews but if the wool on the Swedish ones isn't too off I might go for them. If any thing I can give them to my brother or friend.
I wear my Swedish trousers with one of Steiners old M40 jackets all the time. They have a pleasing steingrau look to them and are vastly better made and sturdy than any repro trousers. Tone wise they are similar to my fj jump trousers.
The bottom of the legs are cut a bit slimmer than German trousers, but not noticeable with jackpots.
Cheers
Martin

Thanks Martin, just wondering, did you remove the ankle straps or leave them on?
Mine have ties at the bottom like M43 trousers (I left those on). The things I took off were the boot hooks which dug into my ankles when wearing gaiters.

Thanks, the ones I found have cargo pockets and leather straps like the ones on a pair of M37 trousers but if mine have boot hooks I'll make sure that I remove them.
They sound like a different pattern to mine. MIne are just plain field grey trousers with ankle ties, slash pockets at the waist and braces buttons. 1942 iirc.
The jacket is a pretty good match for the early pattern M37 SS ones with slash pockets and pleated breast pockets although I had to change the buttons and fiddle around with the collar. I didn't get one of the jackets with pockets on the bum flaps.

Link to the trousers, What do you think?
I already have an M36 so I won't be getting the tunic, but I'll keep that in mind for if my brother ever gets into airsoft.
These are Swedish m39/58, that means that the side "cargo" pockets were added later, around 1958, so just cut them off.
I used mine as lower pockets for a tunic conversion from Swedish m39 to German m43.
Colour comparison:
The two guys on the right have got repro uniforms, but the one in the middle is wearing a Swedish m39/58.
Thanks mate, I'll probably go for them as the colour seems fine.
If you do get them and cut the pockets off, I'll take the spare pockets. I'll PM you.
Cheers
