Does anyone know if you can get any mag pouches that Tanaka Kar98 gas mags will fit into that are similar to standard k98 pouches?, or will I have to make my own

G43 mag pouches fit the Tanaka mags but are not strictly correct ,or you can modify k98 pouches by cutting the facing sides of the two pouch sections and joining them .

As above, you'll need to modify standard K98 pouches by cutting stitching between two of the standard pouches. Or use G43 one's, the leather ones actually look quite good.

Just to confirm what I'm seeing, as I've not got a set of these pouches, but has the hole on the straps been made longer to accommodate the magazines?

Yes and the slot cut out the bottom let's part of the mag go through , I just modified my pouches ,very pleased ! Thank you for the idea _Arthur .
Maybe this should be a featured modification on the forum like the ak hop mod on the mp40 etc ,maybe a how to guide by _Arthur and then a link in the header , I think it deserves it for its simplicity and utility .

It looks like Arthur's website has disappeared, and the pictures with it.

The joy of the Interweb.
