Heh, well there have been one or two in the past, and we tried to organise one last year, but couldn't even get 8 people signed up.

There's a debate about whether WWII tactics can work in airsoft at all - I think they can to a limited extent.

there were some great training days done.
the tactics are hard work with such short range weapons, but it can be good fun and informative

thing is at the moment, its hard to get players to attend propper games, let alone a training day.

a few years ago there were about 16 players turned up just to have some fun training :D good times

We actually struggled to get people to the US training day as well.

A real shame as it was excellent fun...

A joint ops weekend with a day training and then some set pieces for both sides would work! That way you double the numbers and can use the training in the field straight away.

Maybe run them as a 1940s military exercise?

I think Josh has got the right idea there, to run a joint ops training weekend where the site can accomodate the two sides training seperately, and end up putting all their training into a final exercise. Fitting it into the calendar without treading on anyones toes or timiming it right to get enough people to attend, there's a whole different problem.

That is how the last WW2 training day ran that I attended.
Some where near Matlock?
The morning was spent in national groups doing the training, the pm was putting that into practice against the enemy. I thought it worked quite well.

Yes, that sounds good. More likely to get people turning up for a single training day than a whole weekend as well.

I've always used a similar format for "combined" training days and it worked well. The only issue is that you need more instructors who know their stuff! They also need to work together, to ensure what is taught is compatible with what will happen at the end of the day and to make sure that groups don't run into each other before time.

It's also not just about getting the right amount of people, it's about getting the right type of people too. Even one person, just out for a blat, can spoil things for the others there that are making a real effort. I've run some very successful days where the participants have hardly fired a shot. My advice? Focus on skills and tactics, not trigger time.

I've thought about running more fieldcraft days but, as previously said by others, numbers are the problem at the moment.

i think the joint training day is a very good idea, with some combat between the groups in the afternoon. as for somebody just out for a blat, are they not just the regular skimishers? surely people on this forum are ALL people who make an effort? i though that was the idea of ww2 organised games.

You'd be surprised. I can remember an event that was nearly ruined by people not following orders and wanting a blatfest.

Alas, it does happen and, alas, some of them frequent the forum and come to games. I've seen people standing outside of weapon range waving at the shooters, firing on the move like something out of "Blackhawk Down", lone wolfing, and several other breaches of the "don't be a cock" rule. This is a TEAM pursuit and, training days can greatly contribute to that, IF the participants can leave the "airsoft" mindset behind.
