All

Just wondered if anyone had any experience of this.

It's my Dad's 70th this weekend and he's away at his house in Normandy - I'm driving down to surprise him at his 'party'. As I'll be in Normandy (near Carentan) and one of his friends over there has a restored WW2 jeep, I'm planning on taking my 101st loadout with me to get some decent pictures. Whilst I doubt and C&E/Police will stop me at the chunnel (either end), I'm worried about taking my Thompson!

Has anyone done this, and do I need any official documentation with me?

Might be worth contacting AFRA. As a member you would get good advice I'm sure.

Becoming a father didn't stop me... ;)

And it won't stop me for a second time either this summer! lol

I can talk from experience ( playing in the US) UK customs ( at the airport) asked to see my UKARA membership the first time i returned from the US, the second they looked me up and cleared me through I suspect that its the same border agency at ferry ports and im guessing the same knowledge as airport border agency

Thanks for the replies, in the end I chanced it - had a worrying moment on the departure from UK when they stopped me to take an explosive residue swab from the steering wheel and door handles! They asked me the usual did you pack the car yourself and do you have any fire arms questions - I said no, I didn't think my plastic, battery operated M1A1 counted. Didn't get checked at all on the way back.

Anyway, I got some excellent shots in and around some genuine Normandy hedgerows, with a fine example of a WW2 dated jeep. I'll post some up when I've got them looking period. The jeep owner also gave me a tour of some of the local battle sites and we found a large pile of .30 cal casings in a ditch where an American MG nest had been. I've got a few of the better examples to clean up. He's offered to take me on an extended tour next time I'm over there.
