Great.

...maybe the kind of info you would give a game Marshall...

Comrades in Arms has never had marshals nor ever will. We rely on a strong sense of common purpose. That coupled with a generally more experienced player base and players looking for something that can't be found elsewhere means it well, just works. Most player-organised games in the UK are run without marshals but site-organised games naturally favour the use of marshals - no rights or wrongs of course, just a different approach.

sometimes games feel very realistic/atmospheric , everyones in the correct uniforms for the period, its spoiled when a guy/girl in a high vis jacket runs through the game, if you MUST have a marshall, make them player marshals in period kit, or maybe a "civillians" in 1940 clothes

From a players perspective, having something of a live roleplayer background, these may be useful. They certainly seem to fit the airsoft games I have attended.

While not full on with the character role playing (though several WW2 airsofters do play up to stereotypes with atrocious accents  ) most of the conventions are the same as a traditional 'linear' larp romp are there in the games I played.

As Picasso one said, good artists may borrow apologetically, great artists steal!

You know any live or tabletop roleplayers, it will be worth picking their brains (especially live roleplayers who have to deal with many of the same scenario design issues as airsofters). Same with wargamers who are used to setting scenarios based around combat with opposing teams. Often such games can end with both sides 'winning' as they have different objectives where one side reaching theirs does not always mean that they block the other side achieving theirs. As New Zealand is the home of Battlefront and Flames of War (a system noted for being geared towards fair to good objective based scenario design) no doubt there will be something of worth plundering from that source.

Live role players have rule 1, 7 and 7ii as standard in almost every system which all marshals and players know well.

1) don't be a dingbat yahoo (wording varies  , basically play safe, if it don't look safe it probably isn't, some people will get carried away and may need to be reminded)
7) don't take the piss.
7ii) unless it is actually funny.

Others tend to be
- Keep the game flowing.
- maintain the suspension of disbelief.
- follow the spirit over letter of the rules.
- if in doubt, be guided the laws of dramatic correctness.

The rule of "Take your hits" certainly fits in both realms. :good:

To the tune of "Mademoiselle from Armentières"

Napoleons army ran away, As you do
The guard stood firm for Frances Pride, As you do
They said the guard will stand and die
But we heard what their Colonel cried
It wasn't pretty I tell you.

Resistance is fertile

Hi Chaos, maybe you could try a small trial with a few reenactors who are prepared to give it a go. Even if it's only 5-a-side, I'm sure sneaking around trying to ambush each other would really get their adrenaline up. If they like it, they'll do your promotion for you, by telling their mates how good it was.
