Well, are you? I'm not.
Right, it boils down to this. I like most on here have spent £££ and oodles of time on our kit. many of us have 2 or more complete kits, but are we sadisfied with them or are you like me, contantly tweeking. Seems the more you read and research, the less happy you become.
When is enough, enough or is it a case of constantly seeking perfection and never achieving it?
Discuss.

Its a never ending cycle of constant research and improvement, and I personaly enjoy it every time I improve my kit, searching for it modeling it on my own preferences, making it historically correct, finding bargains at millitaria fairs ect
But it will never end but then thats what a hobby is, after all what would be the fun in say going to SOF and just spending £300 in one go on a full loadout then then never getting "into it"
Atm I have 4 loadouts all on the go at once which I am constantly upgrading, its almost like building a computer once you think you have finished you end up building a new one. ![]()
So Id say im happy, my kit has come a long way since my first woefull pics I first took ages ago (I since removed them from embarresment
)
Constantly tweaking the kit - and quite frankly, it's doing my head in. Its OCD in Feldgrau. ![]()

When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Problem is when you get there (say like when I re-enact and I buy the complete original uniform and trimings) then you only go and think of how nice it would be to also have an xyz, or maybes if you had that extra webbing, pocket filler, whatever and it just goes ooooooooooooooooon and oooooooooooooooooon and oooooooooooooooooon. Would I say its a form of OCD? hell yes
its certainly obsessive and compulsive

I'm happy.... but there are always improvements to be made. ![]()

Your as big a kit whore as the next wwii airsofter

A lot of things can be solved by investigating properly into how things should be worn.
But you're right, kit is never absolutely perfect!
I haven't bought anything new for ages. I'm happy with mine. Serves its purpose and looks the part.
I'm getting a couple of replacement bits soon because I've worn the kit out.

I have 5 or 6 impressions that I could consider to be complete, however there is only one that I can consider finished. Even that I'd still like to add/change a couple of bits.
As you say Pat the more research you do the more you find this bit or that isn't quite correct or that one thing was more common than another. I guess you just have to set you're sights on a certain level and be happy when you reach it, otherwise you can keep going for ever.
Ditto Headshot - I'm in replacement mode only, not acquisition!

I would like to get a German loadout, but just can't justify the cost.
It'll have to wait until I win the lottery.

Same for me, I only really spend money to replace bits I have lost/Broken for my US kit.
Just putting the finishing touches to my british loadout, to a point where I am happy with how that looks, and no longer has look-a-like stuff in it.

Now thats an interesting point, is it better to hold off and buy only correct items. other wise it does appear to be a false economy. The SS kit I have would have been one of the few I would have considered to be complete, but after starting on the Heer kit and getting a tunic which fits to correct wartime standard, I now look a it and think, not right and the cycle continues.
I and convince that research is the key, pick your period and invest some cash in decent reference books, might save you mone in the long run.
To HS and Webby, do you consider that having only a few specific uniforms is the reason you are happy with your kit? I.E completed to a standard. if so what standard is that. bearing in mind I've seen both your kits and they look excellent.

Mine's correct to the point where it's the right amount of kit for a fighting soldier; and enough for me to play airsoft. I could reenact with it if I chose, but I choose not to (although PD's newly announced game is tempting.....)
If I wanted to go the whole hog and get all period kit that the average Para was issued (see below) then I suspect I'd get caught into a cycle, but the reality is I have neither the money nor the storage space to make that possible.
It's about managing my own expectations, and to that end, I'm happy with what I have. If I win the lottery, then I suspect that might change a little.

Overall im happy with my "impression". Im currently going through the process of replacing Repro stuff with Original.
Thats about 80% done now.
As i read more, and see more pictures. Im forever coming up with tweaks. I for one buy stuff that i will never skirmish in i.e. The Mae West.
But its a whole other hobby for me.
Yeah, I'd never go that far because a) I can't be bothered, b) I don't want to spend the cash on it.
For me a Mae West isn't something one would wear in combat, and as I'm not bothered about reenacting to the level of getting kit for show, it's not something I'd go for.
If there's one thing that would make me really happy with my kit, it'd be a Garand.

Yes not doing the reenacting side of things I've avoided buying things that aren't useful or part of a combat impression. If someone wants to as part of a collection or a certain look then fine but for me if I can see no practical purpose in buying it, either in a game or for use 'in camp' I won't bother.
Yeah the Mae West was a nice to have. It came up on Ebay and i got a bargain. I use it occasionally for photo's.
Yeah matt, all you need now is a parachute and you've got the pre-jump look!
Good for pictures, a bit cumbersome for airsofting! hehe

Well, I've got a number of impressions, with varying degrees of accuracy. I am upgrading poorer quality bits of kit when I feel like it, getting stuff from Underwood - eg good repro gaiters instead of post-war / poor repros. My next purchase will hopefully be a collared undershirt from Chris, when he gets them in. Most of the inaccuracies I can live with because they are either minor, or would be too expensive to correct. If I only had one loadout, then I would probably pursue it to the nth degree, but with about 7 or more (a) I can't afford it, and (b) I don't consider it's worth it for the amount of times I would wear that particular kit. I've got:
Heer (where my heart is)
Early war Infanterie, mid war Infanterie HBTs, mid war Jäger. I would say these are pretty much as accurate as they could be.
Fallschirmjäger - the only thing lacking is the authentic footwear - I'm using BCH instead of repro front-lacing boots, but they are totally impactical for airsoft, being flat leather soled with no hobs - i.e. zero grip! I'm trying to get some repro socks big enough, then I can wear my low boots instead and tuck the Springerhosen into the socks - then I guess FJ will be complete.
Hermann Göring Division - pretty accurate. I could buy a camo smock for it, but I would never really get the opportunity to wear it, so I'm not bothered.
Luftwaffe Feld Division - farby Sturm jacket in splinter A spoils this, but again it's something I'll not really wear. If I was pursuing it though, it would be quite fun to get another Fliegerbluse and badge it up with Heer insignia for a late-war look, just so ignorant people might comment that it's wrong!
British airborne, British commando - fairly good, but missing the e-tool and cover, missing the bayonet and cover, missing toggle rope, and I only have an M1A1 Thompson. I am not planning to rectify these faults.
[edit] D'oh! Forgot my Hohenstaufen / Waffen SS kit. Again, accurate enough, but there are loads of extras I could buy if I wanted to.
