So now my question is this: why doesn't some enterprising person bring along a piper to an airsoft event and really give the jerries what-for?
I am glad to say that this has been done already old bean at Operation Sealion. The Germans were dug in on the edge of a drainage channel early in the morning when the dulset tones could be heard advancing. Over the crest of a large field came the pieper with Allied troops to the left and right abreast. It was a sight to behold. Strict instructions not to shoot the pieper but hey you know how it goes
I am sure there is a photo somewhere

That's awesome, wish I could have seen it. I would love to play at an airsoft event where the players had a sense of elan.
At the local games I've started blowing a trench whistle and doing bayonet charges just to spruce up the games and get away from the "modern warfare 2 hurr" feel to it all.
Regardless of what side I was on, I'm afraid I'd have lit them up. ![]()

Well I do tend to agree... I can listen to it for about a minute before it gets too obnoxious, but I can't imagine that a piper during a game would play for more than 30-45 seconds at the most. ![]()

Not if they're taking their hits.
We did light them up, not one escaped, except the piper! Us Germans had the wind behind us, but to hear the tunes and then to see the Brits walking out of the mist was a sight to see.
"Will you stop talking about the war!!"
"What, you started it!"
"We did NOT start it!"
"Yes you did, you invaded Poland..."

I'd love to see a video of it. Surely someone filmed it! It would be a real waste not to.

I seem to remember pipers at Rhineland as well for the first allied advance on the dragons teeth?
The pipers are a bit of a thing at Ford ranges. The bagpipes like all instruments take a lot of practise to learn how to play, however this can't normally be done in one's spare room as it very quickly annoys the wife / kids / neighbours. As a result of this the pipers usually practise at the end of the firing range where they are surrounded on 3 sides by 20 ft earth banks. We tend not to scope the pipers as both of them are very good shots themselves ![]()
