Generally speaking they are 1.35J for AEGs, 2.32J for bolt action (minimum engagement distance applies) - unless site policy dictates otherwise...

i thought the general rule of thumb on most if not all airsoft sites was this:-

any full auto aeg - 350fps max or an engagement limit of 30 meters
any aeg on semi only -450fps max "
bolt action rifles - 500fps max "

as for gas weapons, if its a bolt action rifle i assume the max will be 500fps again, but not sure on side arms or shotguns, theyre kinda in a grey area!

anyway hope that helps?!

The question was directed at CiA games and the answer I gave was correct!

Er... its not normal to allow aeg's above 350 ish even if on semi... you start getting into awkward ground legally.

Indeed it was correct, albeit to a totally different question to the one originally asked, as the fps is measured in feet per second, rather than Joules.

Hehe, fps is a pretty meaningless figure (without a qualifier) - many airsofters think of fps as the power of a gun, which it ain't. Impossible to misinterpret an absolute!

Nifty tool for those confused by the fps/bb weight/power calculations...

Erm, you did download the software didn't you? Or were you trying to enter data on the graphic?
Note that the figures I gave are absolute limits, no leeway allowed, (which is why most sites say 328fps with .2g with 10% variance, for example)

The calculator can show you interesting things like the effect of weight of your sniper rounds over distance - a .2g BB at 500 fps will hit a target at 50m with 1.31J energy, swap to a .43g BB and it drops to .35J

By the way, number 1. CiA rule of 'don't be a cock' always applies, so if you AEG is running towards the top end you are expected to use it sensibly at closer ranges (single shot, careful aim, swap to pistol etc). Stupidity will lead to instant removal from the game. Site policies always take precedence over ours so there is a variance from game to game (our next game at UCAP has a strict 1J max limit due to the nature of the site).
