Well he is certainly an entertaining and convincing guide, a pretty much unbroken stream of verbiage spoken with complete conviction - I'd probably believe every word he said!

Its strange, theres no information about this online it seems for either view about the prisoners at Brecourt Manor.
the only information seems to be from the TV program, and its often said that Stephen Amborse isnt the best historical source for information.

Didn't Dick Winters say that the two, genuine, natural born killers that he met during WW2 were Bill Guarnere and Ronald Spiers?

I watched this with great interest. once again it re enforces my belief in ambrose utter lack of research. i was appalled at his treatment of all other allied forces. US jingoism at its most blatant. I am very impressed with the guide though.

But...but.... I'm in love with Ronald Spiers - actually I'm in love with Matthew Settle but they are the same person :giggle:

Good stuff. Even Winters skates around this incident in his book, which suggests that something yukky happened. To be fair, after all they'd witnessed and done, who knows what sort of mental state he was in? It's easy to criticise from the comfort of an armchair.

The idea that this is the reason he never progressed beyond Lt.Col sounds like a load of cobblers though.
