The fact that its not real and as Big says end of game we all sit down and have a beer. People like to be part of something. team, club, ect. A feeling of inclusivness is part of the human condition. why would it no be the same in airsofting.
Heh! We're trying to organise a game where people will be kept very separate and definitely won't all sit down and have a beer at the end of the game......in fact, they probably won't even sit down much.
Didnt we find that really counter productive at CR Steve?
Obviously I have no idea what you're planning but I seem to remember us all agreeing that seperate camping and social didnt create a good feel for the resulting event... then again its years ago i may have forgotten.

My 2p's worth:
* I went US Airborne as I thought it was the cheapest (how wrong I was) and easiest route, I went 101st cos I'm sad and jumped on the BoB band wagon! All a bit strange really, as I wouldn't touch modern US gear with a long stick! I'd re badge 82nd if it wasn't such a pain restitching badges, I may get another cheap jacket just for that purpose.
* I was interested in British Airborne (cos I'm British after all), but the lack of readily available weapons and the itchy uniform put me off. Now there is a Sten in the offering I might change my mind when funds are available.
* I considered German, but after a lot of thinking I just couldn't do it - it just seems wrong (nothing against those that do).
I've realised that my choice is going to limit my gaming opportunities, but I will play resistance/partisan if it means I get a game, and I guess at some point I might get some Brit kit.
However, my allegiance will be with 101st, 506th, Fox Co - we started as a group of friends (from modern), have a strong bond and play well together. I see no reason to mess that up.

At the end of it all are we not here to have fun and chill out at the weekends, with people that we enjoy being with and seeing at the events we play at.
I have met some great people that I enjoy fighting alongside and against, but the end of it all part and parcel of the event is the sit round the fire have a beer and go over the days events again.
Somewhere along the way I think some people have missed this point and some comments have clearly got peoples back up.
Of course that's true Welsh - but not everyone enjoys things the same way. That's why diversity in game types (at last) is a GOOD thing. When we started there was NO choice, it was either a CiA game or 'WW2 in DPM'.
So, it's not a case of people 'missing the point', more a case of everyone doing what they want to do.

There won't be any camping......
I've said enough already...
Oooh, yeah i'm with you....

Already saving up for an 'inevitbly going to be stabbed in the back by a commando' German Greatcoat.
Personally i wont play Axis on morole grounds. But I feel it makes me want to shoot you more, and for me adds to the fact that your the dirty jerry. Of course im friendly with a small amount of Germans as conversations have happened.
i have decieded to re-badge my m42 jacket to 82nd, it gives more scope for games. i intend to put the 101st badge on the spare brassard pocket. i am very taken with the attention to detail bit, if your prepared to go to the trouble, chances are you will get more out of your gameing.
Personally i wont play Axis on morole grounds.
This I really do not understand. The average German soldier was in no way different from his Allied counterpart. Read some autobiographies and you will realise this.
You've got nothing to ein, zwei, drei, vier
A gentle reminder to keep this on topic, before it starts drifting off - I think you get what I mean gents.
When we were a Kingdom it was run by a King
When we were an Empire it was run by an Empress
Now we're a country we're run by a..........
Ironically:
The majority of the waffen ss were not german.
America was pretty much sympathetic to the nazis until the early 1940s and knew all about the 'endlosung' but didnt want to interfere in European politics until there hand was forced.
Worth reading this if were going to be moral about things....

Having read a lot of the posts on this forum I thought carefully about my loadout and was happy with Heer infantryman. I was going to bling it up with rank according to age etc but as someone pointed out there's just not enough "Frontschwein" so I've saved a packet and left it with no insignia other than chest and cap eagles. Generic grunt fits in anywhere. As to batting for the other side I'm saving for a set of plain bdu, will pick up a Tommy lid and maybe later a tommy gun, just so that I can support the Allied isde if numbers are needed for the game although it will be unbadged and once again Generic.
Fred Delius has it right, it's not the side, it's the players and the game

yeah were all a bunch of war criminals.......... your choice is 101st, yet the modern day 101st are also guilty of war crimes in iraq , talk about the pot and kettle
on a side note, "in my opinion" the best 101st solider was the muslim guy who fragged his own squad the night before gulf war 2 kicked off anyone remember that peach
in reply to gadges original post, i started as US 3rd inf division, for the first game, then went down the 27th pzr route, now im at 9th ss, though im making my grey uniform into "gereric heer" as well, i can always do SS if needed (and rape murder and pillage on a sunday) just by using dot44 or a smock that fits the time period (i now have 3).
you may have realized, i dont like being associated with war criminals
i would love to get a brit loadout, but cost prohibits this. my partisan kit is half complete though

Porta your reply was a lot cleaner to read than the one I had typed - but thought best to keep it for my eyes only.
Come on gents, it's only a game after all
Everyone has their own moral stance and it's not for us to get censorious about other people's choices.

Both Tommies and GIs had times when they had no insignia on at all in combat situations.
Yes, it's totally acceptable to have nothing on your BD or M41/M43 (whatever) and be accurate.
In fact in most cases it's MORE accurate not to have insignia.
Yup, I just wear no insignia with the whole 1943 invasion regs' in mind, thus am perfectly happy portraying any generic infantryman. Whenever my Vickers is up and running (and a new decent tripod - that won't break just before i want to use it - is made), I declare myself 2nd Batt' Middlesex Reg', and wear stereotypical items they chose to wear (i.e: they loved the Mk3 helmets for some reason ), purely for realism for the use of the Vickers [see sig below:]. but apart from that, yeah, no particular direction or aspirations.
