New players/forum users may not be aware of the history of this forum. When the Comrades in Arms organisers first dreamt up the idea of focussed and less casual WW2 games it was realised that publicity would play a crucial role. They set up a web site to promote the concept and provide game information. At that time they used a national airsoft forum for organisational purposes and player interaction. However, following the success of the first event and in the light of rather obnoxious forum owners it became clear that something of their own was needed and so the Comrades in Arms forum was started in January 2007.

Now, since then of course the WW2 scene has blossomed with many more events being organised by many other groups. And so the forum grew with it all, now with over 800 active members.

However, this has led to the current situation where there is some confusion, particularly by new entrants. People will refers to "CiA" games when in actual fact they are organised by someone else or that people registered on this forum think they are CiA members (actually only given to those who have gone to CiA organised games). All this is accidental of course, it's just how things happened - none of it could have been predicted five years ago when we set up the first event!

Anyway, the current Comrades in Arms organisers have decided that now is the time for some clarity and definition. Comrades in Arms isn't a big chat room, it isn't a collective of random game organisers - it is an organiser of WW2 airsoft events with its own distinctive style. Game organisation is what they are interested in and will be focussing on.

So, hand in hand with Comrades own new free-standing website (http://www.comrades-in-arms.co.uk) and the new independent WW2 airsoft website/portal (http://www.ww2airsoft.org.uk) currently under construction I can announce that this forum will now be independent of any group or vested interest. It won't be run by a committee, the aim will be simple - a forum for anyone (who can behave nicely) to talk about the hobby they enjoy, buy and sell kit, find out about events, book and interact with event organisers, plus all the other things this forum is renowned for. This forum has been the backbone of the WW2 airsoft scene and that will continue and hopefully strengthen. Outwardly the forum won't change, other than in name, so it's business as usual. Keep calm and carry on!

Yeah, yeah, it all looks a bit different now.

I switched the theme over at midnight last night but since all the new elements are named the same as before it may require a browser page refresh (press F5) or the emptying of your browser cache in order to see things as they should now be. The changes aren't too dramatic and it shouldn't give users nightmares (yes, I know some users like everything to stay the same for ever but meh).

Main changes:
Colour schemes of both the website and the forum harmonised.
From the board index view each forum section is more clearly delineated, removing the rather boring slab of similar colour of old.
Sticky and announcement posts now marked in blue and yellow respectively (was yellow and red before).
The colour red for topic icons now has only one meaning - if something is marked red in any way then you haven't read it (previously red was also used for announcements giving lack of clarity).
"1st post" lines darkened slightly to improve the clarity of white text (which most often indicates a link to something).
Old "C" icons (for Comrades in Arms) now replaced with "W"
Gill Sans font used for buttons.
Menu at the top of the page that carries link to the website pages of articles, news and kit guides has been changed in colour scheme but not function.

Otherwise, everything looks and functions the same as before, so after the "Eh? Something's different" after a day or two you will be hard pressed to remember what it was like before - which is how it should be. Evolution not revolution.

So are CIA going to have a separate forum as well, or continue using this one to organise their games??

All organisers are welcome to continue using this forum to promote and organise their events, that's what it's here for. So while I can no longer speak for CiA I can't imagine there will be any change, nor would there be any point.

No plans for CiA to create a new forum, and no need to.
