I just wanted to share my excitment! :happyswing:

I am putting together an outfit for a German impression, as a woman who is a Luftwaffe Flak Helferin. So far, I have got a pair of trousers and a jacket to alter and dye, and a bread bag. I am still looking to get a cap, a water bottle and the belt and buckle.

I can't wait to see it finished :)

Looking forward to seeing your impression Anne, sounds like it is nearly there.

Cheers

Sounds like it's going to be an interesting impression, just need to get your hands on an 88mm Flak gun now! :D

Does anyone have a link that gives a list of kit that would have been issued to these Helferinnen? I.e. gas mask case, breadbag, belts (what buckle?), anything else... My missus is also doing a Flakhelferin, and I need to collect kit for her.

I've mostly been looking at pictures. What I have gathered (I think this may depend on the uniform you go for) is that they would have had a Luftwaffe buckle on a black belt (on the uniform I am going for), and I am guessing basic Luftwaffe kit. I haven't found anything to say what they would have been issued with yet, so if I get to wear this in a game, I will just get the basics of what I need in lufty colour.

Yes, I'd go with a black belt and LW buckle. I've got a couple of bits which might be useful, I'll drop you a pm.

Cheers

Are you going for the fliegerbluse with the external hip pockets and integral belt, or the later m44 style uniform?

I'm going for the M44 style. It was much easier to find something to adjust in that style!

If you can find a source that has M44 tunics in blue-grey LW colours, please share the link! Will make my own hunt easier.

I haven't found anything of the sort. What I have is one of these: http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/231367589854?nav=SEARCH

It's listed as Finnish battle dress and has the right type of pockets, although the epaulettes need taken off. I am about to take the epaulettes off of mine, and then attempt to dye it.

A quick comparison between the (hikishop) M44 tunic, the target result, and the Finnish tunic you bought.

For the buttoned blouse, I would suggest the M44 route - the resemblance is quite a bit better than on the Finnish tunic. However, the Finnish tunic *could* be reworked to resemble the female Fliegerbluse-style garment below:

Seemingly a very close match.

Re-tailor the collar, remove the button fly or remove the rear set of button holes and re-button hole the fly, remove-reprofile-reattach pocket flaps and pockets, remove shoulder straps and attach shoulder-board loop, and finally dye blue!

I'm tempted to buy one, just to experiment and see how close I could get it. Would be a lot easier than my '49patt conversion now I've got a decent buttonholer! Shame the button-fly on the Finnish version is so narrow compared to the original German tunic.

EDIT: I'm not up on my German uniforms, but looking at the original picture in that comparison, the waist of the tunic is really rather different to that of the M44 tunics. That's take quite a bit of work. Anyone know if the Hiki shop M44s are pure wool fabric, or synthetic/semi-synthetic?

It's a close enough match for me, especially when I don't know how this dye is going to work out! I wouldn't want to risk a more expensive tunic....

For my impression, the jacket looks fine to me when tucked into the trousers. Yes, the pockets are ever so slightly different, but to be honest I don't care all that much at the moment.

NaughtyPartisanAnn, gettinging involved in the hobby and having fun is the most important thing when you start out. Once the bug bites - and it will! - then you will also find yourself upping the accuracy. For now, I'm sure the Finnish tunic will be fine :)

McVickers, hikishop unfortunately has no info on their M44. Only one photo on the site. I suspect it is not a big-ticket item for them. Given the cost - $40.50 ex shipping - it could make for an affordable experimenting piece?

Oh, don't worry, the bug has biten :p It's just that Dave and I have concentrated more on our allied loadouts for now. I have thoroughly enjoyed the couple of games I have been to so far :good:
