You might cast your eye over the thirty or forty WW2 games that have already been run to get an idea about what type of events people attend and what they expect from an event (all listed at the foot of this forum).

Secondly, dates are crucial - bumping against or on top of someone else's event doesn't go down too well and a knowledge of clashing airsoft/reenacting events will help when choosing an event date.

Old 'Un wrote a good overview of WW2 event organisation here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=7349&p=119152 and while a tad out of date on detail nonetheless the general points hold true.

Oh, and I don't think it is a great idea to ask people what they want - you will just a load of conflicting ideas. Put on the sort of game YOU want to put on and sell the idea well. If players like the cut of your jib they will book...

Hi Ben

It would be if it didn't have those horrid 80s buildings.

Yes, Anzio is fine, played there several times. I guess 'red brick' does OK for 40s Dutch houses and it would be nice to go to have an event at a local venue.

You may find a degree of consumer resistance to playing all day and half the evening as well, I am usually dead on my feet after a full day by 5.30, but maybe aim for a straight through day with no 'lunch breaks', much more immersive.

To avoid a blatfest in WW2 clothes, probably a good idea to have a think about non-combat activities, or at least structure things so there are periods of reorganisation & recce etc.

Otherwise, pretty much what Dave said.

Cheers

Sadly not many 40's period town lying around empty waiting for WW2 airsofters to make use of, there always has to be some compromise and Anzio does make a decent urban setting.

the main thing is dates , im not sure when your planning, but JULY/AUGUST are the two that are hard, as so much Non-airsoft ww2 stuff happens and a lot of the players go to these events.

also lots of people on holidays so that thins it down even more.

good luck with it, (just dont book december the 9th  )

I'm happy to give anything ago once and if i like it will go again. This is what happened with me personally on my first WW2 themed game which was Oddballs game at drakelow tunnels. I loved it so went to his second game at the Chateaux (Area 51?) I was also invited to go along to one of Josh's WW2 Games last november and have been to every one possible he has put on since.

With the WW2 community like every other community you have both ends of the spectrum. At one end you have some people will make sure all their kit is 100% authentic, badged and stiched correctly and have access to alot of uniforms and equipment from different theatres. At the other end you have players that might have a very basic impression, with post war belt and a late 40's dutch Battle Dress. I couldnt care less if the person next to me is wearing mordern boots and has some post war kit as long as they have made an effort and are easily reconisble as being a "baddie" or a "goodie". As for the age of the buildings i couldnt give 2 hoots as long as the game is good and im having fun. :good:

How many players would you be expecting? If you hosted a small game (10-15) a side you could make it a very niche game and have strict rules on kit and the likes. If a game though is too niche it may not attract the minimun ammount of players and its worth bearing in mind a couple of WW2 games have been cancelled aready this year due to numbers amongst other factors. If it was a larger game 30 a side you would have to most likely make allowances on kit and potentially units that you wanted in the game. (you have already touched on this by posibility of allowing players to play as airborne)

Good luck with it :good: Its been a number of years since i have been there, broke the barrel on one of my hudson grease guns last time! Luckily had the old tommy as a back up :giggle:

haha, thats good to know! which is why i put this up, when ive done modern milsims (i know boooo!!) weve always had an evening element to it. so i thought the same for this, but if like you said i might encounter some resistance to doing so, ill just leave that bit out. ya never know like Headshot said if its late or early enough in the year we'll get darkness early anyway.

Well, never say never, if it has worked out for your milsims then it might be a goer, depends how tiring the days activities are really. I can just remember crawling at 1930 after 'Hauptmann Horn' and not being able to do anything much at all for a couple of hours afterwards. We all just sat around the camp fire in a daze.

You often some to get some people up for night action, so you could always make it an optional extra.

Cheers
