Standing at Worthing station wearing my Rogatywka, I was approached by a lady asking em if I was Polish. 'Her we go ' I though. Imagine my surprise when she informs me on the journey up to London that she was going to the Sikorski museum to research her uncle. She had a big file with her and it turns out that not only her two uncles were in the RAF (sadly shot down and killed over France) and in Tanks during the war, but her dad was at Arnhem. He was a gunner in the 1st Independent Parachute brigade and was wounded and captured at Oosterbeek. I got her details and she was very interested in the WW2 airsoft community's Arnhem games. I did inform her that we were not re-enactors, but she was still interested and perhaps one day she can visit and relay her Dad's story. She did say that there were (as in most films unfortunately) inaccuracies regarding the Polish drop as her Dad went in on a Horsa glider on day two. Fascinating stuff though.

I'm a hero with coward's legs.
