The Southern Army Division organising group are investigating the possibility of running an annual 'rifles only' event.
These events were last run by the lesser-spotted Wladek and co a few years ago now and proved to be very successful if low on numbers (see the threads here for a flavour of the events: viewtopic.php?f=279&t=19437 & viewtopic.php?f=214&t=15793).
What we want to know is how many people in the community would be interested in revisiting an event such as these? As organisers, we need to know if this is a viable option in order for us to get planning!
The rules would be simple; unless you were a section leader or were assigned the role of a squad machine gunner you would have to carry a single shot, bolt action weapon (as the majority of soldiers really did during WW2!). No caveats, no extra requirements...simply a WW2 Airsoft event focused on using single shot weapons.
Over to you; thoughts lads and lasses???
I'd be up for it .
Ditto
I'm game for a rifles only game.
In fact I would absolutely love a game where we imitated a more realistic squad loadout. 8 men with rifles, 1 with an LMG and the NCO with an SMG.

Ralph
if it was rifles and not bolt action then, be up for it , just kinda screws us Garand folks lol

Problem with that having played it at the first rifles game Garands shoot the bits out of you. You can fire 3 or 4 times faster than a bolt action. It is no different than an MP40 or any other weapon firing on single shot.
Sounds like an excuse to get a Springfield

Ralph
If we were to run the game would it help if it was stated any rifle that was wooden stock bolt action? I understand that ww2 rifles can be rare and or expensive and so therefore prohibitive for some. For those that say I haven't got a rifle so this excludes me, there is always an option like this:

Josh did something similar at his WW1 game and I have to say it was great fun. It definitely opened up the game to a lot more people. After a few meters you don't tend to notice what type of rifle is shooting at you, just that they are shooting at you.

Ralph
Agreed! A few of the lads were using them at the WW2 Gunman game yesterday, and like you say; you can't tell the difference when you're in the thick of the action
I have a couple that I would be able to lend to team mates. (Springfield / K98)
Though my lovely M40 would need some scrim to mask it a little
I do have a sniper rifle, but it's in black, it's a later project to put it into wood, so a "paint up" to wood affect is acceptable?

I would say so; as long as it looks relative to the WW2 period, then we would accept this at a game
Any old sort of wood stock VSR/BAR10 looks fine, people have been using those for years. Scrim up the barrel if it bothers you.
I've played several rifles only games, and I would say that the introduction of even a pistol (springers are OK), let alone semi auto rifles, LMGs etc completely changes the nature of the game. A static MG (as at Chambois) works fine though.
Anyway, yes, naturally I'm up for it. Some of the best WW2 games I've played were rifles only, and I miss Wladecks efforts. Josh is having similar success with his WW1 rifles games.
You can have a decent game even with small numbers too.

id be up for a rifles only event. it would be the only justification id have for finally committing to buying a bolt action

Just bought another bolt action rifle this weekend, to make into ww2 type, on the strength of this "boltie battle" happening.
As I don't reckon it will be that soon, so I'll have time to make it look decent.
Andy.
Yes chaps
You could count me in for a rifle game.
I like a game that gives everyone a chance to shoot someone without them emptying a high cap mag all over you before you reload if you miss the first time.
See ya
Peter.
I'm really missing Wladek's rifles only games , there's such a different flavour to a rifles game not to mention the greater reality of the squad dynamic , if you have a Ww2 rifle or even a generic wood effect rifle then i highly recommend having a go just for the experience.
