Hello my fellow WW2 enthusiasts.

The danish WW2 airsoft niche has finally started to grow and soon it will be practical to use vehicles in our games.

However, i have some concerns about the damage which an airsoft pellet can do on, for example a Willy or a GMC.
And i have seen some photographs from your games in which you used jeeps, so i was hoping that you had some experience on this area and can provide me with some information?

Greetings from Denmark.

Jonas

Old 'Un has some fairly strong views on scenarios with vehicles(from an organisers POV) - I expect he will chime in shortly.

It's less about chipping paint and more about ensuring you don't accidentally squash a player.

Welcome Jonas :D . As said someone will post soon from either an organisational point of view, or that of a vehicle owner, and I am sure this will offer some assistance to you.

There is also somewhere on the net (the link for it eludes me at the moment) a scandinavian soft air forum, I'm pretty sure at least one or two of the members have registered and posted on this forum. Thus a quick search may profer the link ;)

Hi Jonas, and welcome. A BB can chip paint if it's fired from close quarters - some people are prepared to accept that risk and use their vehicles in game; others are not.

I have used my jeep in some games but the enemy is not encouraged to fire on it normally, but it can be used as a mobile CP and transporting extra kit.

We try not to fire from the jeep, as well thus we do not draw fire.
However as said others do not mind using them in a game close up in the fire however my paint is not up to it because it was poorly primed so easily chipped.

Speed of driving must also be sensible especially in covered areas where someone could be hiding e.g. long grass etc.
Just be sensible like many things in airsoft.

LOL

MVs was how I got into airsoft ..organising them for games... driving in games.... playing and then organising games with vehicles in .

My Observations as an organiser

1 most airsofters have no idea how to use vehicles in a military/game sense, they end up getting used as set dressing , taxis or written in for convoy work . If you can get half switched on drivers with an appreciation of the game and airsoft then you'll get better use out of them . don't let the vehicels over stage the event though , it should add not detract or dictate to the event .

2 Avoid armour at all costs . It's fucking dangerous frankly. In reenactment it's mainly choreographed movement, airsofters will run out in front of vehilces with a toy gun and expect it to stop . Getting run over by a Jeep/Land Rover you may survive, anything armoured stands a good chance at killing you .... as set dressing yes, but I wouldn't let a Sherman roam around an airsoft battle . I saw a Ferret armoured car with a driver and fully exposed comander reverse quite happily into a Land Rover and then drive off not even having noticed.

3 Assume all airsofter are vehicle ignorant .I have narrowly avoided running overpeople in the dark who were lying down in the road. Looked very tactical , esp with my lights out , but could have ended up with very flat people . Once players pick up that toy gun ...they loose a lot of perspecitve.

4 insist all vehicles are road legal and insured. It wil lcover you from "was it safe or were the brakes and tyres crap " arguments later. Also drivers insurance means in the event of them running over your players the liability is shared. You also need to be able to trust the drivers to be relatively nuetral and level headed to make sure its kept safe . Drivers should be part of your organising crew rather than players taking part .

5 Speed limits - keep em under 15 MPH .

6 Damage -- I've had windscreens cracked, plastic screens holed , paint blobbed/scraped off , endless crap left in it , tailgates and other stuff damaged by lazy ignorant bastards (players) , endlessly asked to go here, there, where ever throughout the full 24 hours (coz players are too lazy/unfit to walk anywhere ) . Damage will happen and people will trophy hunt as well ... at the end of theday is it an ornament or a working vehicle .

Wouldn't have missed any of it though !

Gunman runs vehicals all the time at our weekends and Old'un has hit it on the head. I would also add use them as part of the senario and though a real bullet may well pass through the side of an un-armoured vehical its airsoft and they make great instant cover...lol just watch you feet getting shoot to bits.

We have also experimented with loads of ways to take vehicals out, paintball bazooka's and now playing around with lazer tech. The rule of taking out a vehical in game is just as important as shooting a soldier and you should think hard about it in your senarios.

hope this helps

I would say lazer tag is the best as I will be working on, this is talked about in depth on the weapons section.

we,v all so used a few over the years to,
its true they can be risky beasts in daft hands, so don't let daft players behind the wheal,
only use roads or track,s no off road use, all windows open (so the enemy have a chance to hit the driver etc)

and with a little bit of imagination they can be used and turned into all sorts of thing,
Punto = german 1/2 track
punto painted black = black hawk :) (with a lot of imagination)
jeeps, = jeep,

all ways wanted to get some old transit vans and use them as M1113 apc,,,, (ply covering the windows)

as for chipping cut and fit some perspecs to your mirrors etc,,

So a silvery blue Punto would be a Typhoon? :good:

I've got a M38A1 1950s Dutch army Jeep arriving soon as a project at uni way...

Hoping to have the thing from wreck/running like a dream in 3 months (with half the uni engineering dept hopefully behind me :D)

So what are good strong paints to prime/paint with which can 'stand' bb impacts without too much damage. Wouldn't mind touching up but could see it being annoying after a few times.

i usually fold / remove mirrors , and remove lighting signal unit covers and bulbs

also WIND DOWN side windows INSIDE THE DOORS

ive seen bbs shot at 328 fps "POP" car side windows, and even done it my self with a stock marui ak47

windscreens being stiffer stuff even take hits at 550 fps plus , i uzed my gas uzi on a van windscreen at the front, and no effect :good:

rear windows, ive never seen one pop from AEG fire, though a good gas gun may cause it to fail :?
