*Edit*
This was pulled form another thread, rightly so, but it should be read as part of a jocular conversation, not as an announcement.

OK, well from next year we are running all our Rifle only games in early war.

why?

Because people who apparently are interested in WWII, and know everything about cammo patterns in Normandy, in 1944, in September, on a Tuesday still walk around saying Polish Cavalry Charging Panzers.

ps we WILL be doing the invasion of Poland, and there will be Cavalrymen on the Polish side.

sorry I know its only a myth, but its a very cool and romantic myth. People state that this myth is something which castes the Polish forces in a bad light, but if it had been true i believe the opposite.
The contribution of the polish forces during the war are greatly under played and should, i believe, be given much greater recognition.

A hero is not a man who takes on overwhelming odds, a hero is a man who does what he must even though all hope is lost. For hope, no matter how faint can fuel the smallest embers of courage, but a hopeless man acts out of desperation that his actions may instill hope in others.

my usual codswollap but i am just a romantic fool.

Oh no you are right. As much as the Germans thought is showed the Poles as idiots, the Poles thought it showed them as romantic yet doomed heros. Myths tend to please, which is why they become so persistent.

However all Polish Cavalry will be dismounted.

Polish armour however...

An invasion of Poland game does sound interesting (been looking for an excuse to get a polish loadout) and i do like the concept of a rifles only game, would it be possible to get some information on where one could purchase a polish loadout... even just a look alike would suit my needs(read addiction  ).I also think that there needs to be more early war games as everything seems to be very 44 concentrated, not that there's anything wrong with that...

Here`s a scan of a Polish infantryman from a Europa book. Shouldn`t be too difficult knocking up a lookalike set of kit.

Early war kit guides will be forthcoming in the new year, along with places to get the stuff from.

There is actually very few Tunics 'readily available' that are like the Polish one - but with the right one, you can do a fair few other nations with one Tunic.

However one feels like one is hijacking Chomley's thread... but they started it... with horses.

That's great, recently i have been fixated with the more or less forgotten nations of the early years, but decided not to do any loadouts because there wasn't any games, so hopefully I'll be able to get a few games next year, had to kind of cancel my plans for Bastogne because of my maths exam (on the 6th  ) so I'll probably look at getting to games next year once I'm free-ish. :good:

I think the British officers tunic is open collared, the Polish is closed.

We are looking into, and building examples of how to do these forgotten nations with very little outlay, to create the 'silhouette' and get the important features of the look - so people do not have to get whole new uniforms, but allowing us to play outside the 'big three'.

Definitely on the cards are France and Poland. Italy is proving tricky, but we are working on it :D

for the Italian side we need reversible tunic's :wink:seriously though might make an interesting scenario if the game was set at the period of the Italian change of sides or even a game set with Vichy French troops changing allegiance .

Weapons wise all we'd really need are:
Mannlicher-Schönauer's
Steyr-Mannlicher's
Carcano's
And they all look relatively the same so maybe the odd VSR conversion wouldn't go amiss...
And i think that a greeny-brown closed collar tunic would go quite far :good:

Actually weapons wise all that is needed would be a 'long piece of wood', ie a wooden rifle. Of course if people want an Italian rifle just for fun, then well hey ho that's great, and I am sure it would be allowed by just about every organiser for just about any side as a rifle no problemo.
